It's impossible to defend a nearly 2000 mile border with Mexico. Every fence can be breached. The vast, vast majority of migrants are streaming into the US for economic opportunities. You want to stop it? Arrest and imprison the people hiring them. Problem solved. Doesn't matter if you're a Trump or a contractor or someone looking for a nanny. Hire an illegal and go to prison for ten years. I guarantee you there will be no more migrants crossing the border. But Republicans don't like that solution |
You’re good with e-verify, right? |
|
It is interesting that in the 1990's Democrats were against illegal immigration because it affected the wages of blue collar workers and union membership. Clinton passed strong immigration laws stating in 1996, “It strengthens the rule of law by cracking down on illegal immigration at the border, in the workplace, and in the criminal justice system—without punishing those living in the United States legally.”
Now Democratic leaders all seem to be anti-deportation of immigrants who have committed crimes. I don't understand because it makes people resentful of immigrants who are working hard. |
Democrats lost union votes and now they are chasing minority votes. |
You need to do both — go after employers and deport migrants who do not have proper paperwork. In addition, applications need to be assessed faster as oppposed to whenever. And don’t be so quick to give a pass to anyone who isn’t a GOP supporter. Plenty of your nannies, landscaping and home improvement crews, and house cleaners that your hire don’t have the proper paperwork either — and no, they aren’t all Latino. |
Absolutely. But would big AG, construction, hospitality? It's you Republicans that are the problem. You want your cheap labor. Talking about illegal immigrants is nothing more than a convenient political diversion. You won't do shit to stop anything. Arrest the Trumps and the other employers of illegals and problem solved. But you won't do that |
| What system does California use? |
It doesn't. It prohibits localities from mandating its use or any other electronic employment verification system. If an employer chooses to use such a system, they must strictly comply with California restrictions on use of such a system or face $10,000 in fines for each violation, likely dissuading any employer (except those who do federal contracting work) from using an electronic verification system.. https://www.huntonlaborblog.com/2016/02/articles/employment-policies/californias-new-e-verify-law-get-it-right-or-pay-the-price/ |
Florida is a required E-verify state for any private sector employer with more than 25 employees and for all government employers. Mar-a-Lago would need to comply. (Law passed over the summer.) |
Can't discriminate against illegal migrants, now can we? |
Agreed. Easy to say you will provide sanctuary when you think only a couple of states a couple thousand miles away will handle it. El Paso and other places along the southern border is waiting for an overdue thank you from the other states. |
Exactly which DEMOCRAT politicians are fighting for that? ZERO. |
REpublican voters are fine with ending illegal immigration. Republican donors like the current system. Guess who the GOP politicans listen too? |
