I also dislike feminized male names in general (and would like to point out that it never, ever goes the other way). I couldn’t put my finger on why I don’t like Paula but that might be it. These names always sounds kind of lame to me.

Alternatively, Paul is a masculinized version of the name Paula.

Or, more accurately, Paul and Paula are the male and female versions of the same name.

Hate it mainly because I hate names that are really riffs on male names. Paul= Paula Yes, I know most do have male versions but I hate it when it is obvious.

Sorry, op!

I love Paulina but hate Paula. I even like Paulette! I work with a Paulette and she's great.

Straight up now tell me, are you going to love it forever?

That song came out 33 years ago. Nobody who isn't old (like you or me) is going to have any associations with it.

I'm the queen of retro names and even I don't like it. Sorry, OP. What is it you like about it? If it's the vowel sounds, maybe try Laura or Claudia? Are you looking for a name that starts with P and has a little old school vibe? How about Patricia or Patrice? Help us help you.

Don't love it but I do think Polly is cute!

I have a really stylish friend name Paola and I love it. I also like Paulette.

I disagree with the others about which names shouldn't return. Sure Bertha and Irma are pretty bad, but baby Barbara is adorable.

Love baby Barbara and Paula! I’ll throw in baby Nancy too.

With a Spanish accent, I love it (Pow-la). American accent, less so (Paw-la).

If we’re going there, I like Cynthia, Sandra, Virginia and Teresa.

Except no. Names like Paula, Stephanie, Henrietta, Georgina, etc. are literally diminutives of the male names. If it doesn't bother you, cool, but you can't just invent a new etymology for these names -- they come from the masculine names.
