These are the shallow swabs FWIW

Takes 2 seconds. Not invasive.

Kids will be fine. It's the freak-out parents who can't deal.

Agree - I signed my kids up. Not trying to stick my head in the sand and claim ignorance on this. The more info the better

It’s not 2 seconds, it’s 15 seconds in each nostril (https://www.resourcepath.net/mid-nasal-swab/). For young kids who have had barely any “normal” school in the past two years, it’s invasive. Will I keep them home if symptomatic or if we’ve potentially been exposed, yes. Will I take them to our pediatrician to have them tested, yes. Do I want a someone they don’t know swabbing their nose randomly, no.

30 seconds once a week...if your kids can't survive that, best to keep them home

Where are y’all crawling back into when they announce the requirement of anal swabs?

OMG.

All of these weak excuses are why we are having yet another surge. You people are the worst.

Sure, I mean your asymptomatic kid could pass it to someone who is high risk and they might die, but no worries for you!

Hey if you’re an adult who didn’t vax by choice, that’s your decision. I’m done making my kids take care of you when you won’t do your part. My kids mask and we mitigate but if they get asymptomatic Covid and give it to an unvaccinated adult not really sure what else I should have done.

Oh OK, so it’s fine for them to asymptomatically spread it to an at risk individual? Like my child, or sports coach who has an elderly family member, or to one of your own family members? I’ve never been so sickened by people than in this past year. Pure selfishness. And all so their kids won’t miss two weeks of school.

All classes should be live streamed to kids who have to miss school because of COVID. My kid in another school district is missing school because of COVID and was told there will be no work posted for DC during quarantine, DC will just make up the work when DC gets back to school. That is insane. Why would parents want their kids excluded for 14 days if that's the type of academic support that will be provided?

Yep, requirement for attending. Sounds perfectly reasonable.

1. The more people who get Covid, the more chances the virus has to mutate and create deadlier strains.
2. What about all the people who get infected by those with no or few symptoms?

How is this being done in the elem schools? Does someone go into each class and test each kid who signs up? Because testing a bunch of kids is going to take a while...

Ok, I agree with the unvacc adult part. But you do realize they could also give it to… vaccinated teens and adults? Unvaccinated children? Immunocompromised children and adults?? Right????

If my kids get it, they will have gotten it at school FROM one of those groups. So if it’s asymptomatic, great. Im not saying I don’t care at all about Covid or don’t try to stop spreading it, but if someone gets it, asymptomatic is like the ideal scenario.

Poster said "asymptomatic kid." They didn't say if their kid was obviously ill and therefore obviously shouldn't be in the school.
However, I agree with the point that asymptomatic people can still spread it to others who may or may not become more seriously ill.
