You can do the same Karen. Let's hear your opinion about soccer and recruiting and why do it instead of your opinion about what comments are and are not permissible in this thread.

I need a đŸ„ƒ after reading that.

Ok but how rich are you? If all the costs are nothing to you, then why would you care? Buy them pricey soccer and camp and family vactions, etc. For some games it is nothing and for some it is a sacrifice and difficult.

Ok, but as far as investments go you’d be better off putting the 50k into a 529 plan and letting it grow over 18 years.

529 plans are awful and will not yield the return a 60- 80 percent scholarship will

How many players get 60-80 percent scholarships when rosters are filled with international players receiving full rides?

As a I said before, a good player needs to commit below their level of play to obtain that level of scholarship. They need to be one of the top recruits for the program.

For example, a kid with a UVA offer of 25 percent
.May get a 50 percent at Tech
.a 75 percent at ODU
..etc

Point remains the same.

If you get an athletic scholarship you are essentially a professional athlete. They are paying you indirectly to play for the school.

And just like pro contracts, some get paid more tha lm others based on their value to the program.

A full ride is worth 125,000 over 4 years
..or about 32000 a year
..basically on par with a lower NWSL players

Currently, the minimum player salary for the 2021 NWSL season is $22,000 and the maximum player salary is $52,500,

No matter the average cost of attendance at a school, a 25% scholarship = one full year of college attendance (tuition + fees + room and board) paid for at that school. That plus money saved in a 529 could make a significant dent in the amount of loans a family needs to take out. Generally, your kid won’t get a full ride because most kids don’t, but that doesn’t mean the athletic $$ available at a D1 school is negligible.

There are families around here that are more interested in the admissions “hook” to academically selective schools (US News top 30) because they can just write a check for each year’s tuition, whether that’s Princeton or UVA or ODU. Maybe those are the parents and DDs who haven’t realized they’re not going to be recruited at the soccer level they want by the academic schools they want.

To each their own.

Everyone’s family dynamics are different. My goal is to help my 4 kids get degrees at the cheapest price possible
.and God willing, debt free.

D 3 NESCACS recruiting is increasingly competitive. For mens teams, school are increasingly looking to international and DA players. For women - certain schools are hard to break into even for a very good club and high school player.
