OP. Yes, all five are symptomatic. It's a "bad cold," and all will most likely be okay because they are vaxxed. Now to just to get better and break out of quarantine.


But damn. They went through the entire 18 months COVID free and did everything right... and still got sick.

With the new mask guidance, I'm not wearing a mask and neither is my child under 12. It was based on (a) an Indian study rejected for peer review and (b) a study during bear week at Provincetown (if you don't know what a "bear" is, I high suggest you give it a Google). Vaccines work and my unvaccinated under 12 is at less COVID risk than I am vaccinated. Riding in a car is more dangerous to me or them. 18 months in, it's time to live life. Some people, especially in Arlington (like a certain stationery saleswoman), really don't want this to end.

As for testing athletes, what a waste of resources for such a low-odds thing. Check out VDH data on breakthrough infections and how rare they are. Of those, I wonder their age and comorbidities. It'd be great if we had a health agency that provided more transparency on the most relevant factors for COVID.

LOL - anything that doesn't spread COVID fear porn is met with immediate racism/sexism/homophobia accusations (really weak ones) by the typical "COVID is death" crowd. It really has become a religion.

The study cited by the CDC for its new mask guidance took place in India with some people who had been vaccinated with non-US approved vaccines and it was rejected for peer review. That's very relevant.

As for the unreliability of the data that took place during bear week, that was initially flagged by Peter Staley, one of the most prominent AIDS activists in the history of AIDS advocacy. You should go call him a homophobe.

what I don't understand is why they are still wearing masks if negative and vaccinated? the power point presentation by the AD and their medical advisor before tryouts said specifically that they were doing this for safety and to allow athletes to practice and play without masks -- including indoor sports. Volleyball was specifically used as an example during the parent meeting. Well, my vaccinated kid is being tested every day and the volleyball coaches have decided that they will all wear masks all season. I'm not anti-mask or anti-vax at all -- quite the contrary. But what is the point? Vaccinated athletes should either be excused from the daily testing, or they should be allowed to take off their masks with a negative test. It's a ton of testing with no discernible purpose except maybe to gather research data. And why are coaches being allowed to make the decision about which sports wear masks and which don't? This should be an APS-wide policy, not a sport by sport coach by coach determination.

Are you allowed to opt out of the testing once you have opted in? I have been thinking about it more I don’t want my athlete to get a false positive and have to miss school esp since she is vaccinated and has already had Covid.
