I believe NCSL usually relegates two bottom teams to the next lower division and promotes the two top non-D1 teams to the next division up.
Division 1 (Spring 2020:
http://elements.demosphere.com/80738/schedules/Spring2021/99931005.html) understandably lost the top McLean 09 and BRYC 09 teams that are off to ECNL for their on-age U13 year. Those two teams were playing up last year. With two teams already gone, perhaps there was no need to relegate any team based on the spring results.
LMVSC Red is also gone, even though there is a "LMVSC Patriots 2008 NCSL" team listed down in D3 for the fall. ARL Blue is gone, but I'll address that in a moment.
The four "new" teams (by name, at least) to the division are Arlington White, Loudoun Black, McLean White, and SYC Blue. Arlington Blue was D1 during the spring, so they were either renamed to White, or they truly got bumped down to D2 (there is an ARL Blue listed there) with White coming over from CCL2. Loudoun Black has come over from CCL2. McLean White got promoted to D1 from D2.
As far as I know, SYC did not field three teams last season. SYC Blue (now Academy?) played in CCL1 and EDP last season. SYC White was due to be promoted from D2 to D1. Anyone know if SYC White was just renamed as SYC Blue (or Orange, for that matter)? SYC Orange is listed in D2 for the fall, with no other SYC teams listed at U14 (or U15, for that matter).
To address the previous reply, there is still a BRYC Elite Academy Black listed in D1 for the fall. I can't think of a reason why this wouldn't be the same team that was there in the spring.
