Something sweet never belongs on a salad. Ever!

Go Away!

Not about a weight/diet. I just find anything sweet in salad to be unappealing. Fruit/honey/sugar doesn’t belong in salad. Unless it is a fruit salad. But just my opinion.

Okay then don’t make it. But go away with your opinion on somebody else’s salad.

I hate cucumbers I’m not going to say “no cucumbers!!!!”.

Lol!

Heartily disagree...love grapes, apples, and strawberries in salad. Agree about adding hardboiled egg, avocado, chickpeas, pecans, a little parmesan, corn, and yes, even croutons too to balance it out (and not necessarily all these things at one time)....this is not a sophisticated salad and the keto people will scoff at the carbs, but these treats are what helps me eat greens regularly. Otherwise I would avoid them. And yes, I even add (horror of horrors) jarred dressing, like paneras fugi apple.
-an I don't love salad person who tries to still eat salad daily

Added just a few sunflower seeds and dried cranberries (no animal proteins like meat or cheese or egg) definitely has helped me maintain a routine of a big salad for one meal a day. I add other things too (varies, besides chopped green onions and thinly sliced radishes I try to have at least one different plant addition each week). It's like a tiny little surprise every so often while eating the salad.

Here's one that's super simple:

Really fresh romaine lettuce, topped with bacon cut into strips and fried and some croutons. Top that with a poached egg. Make a dressing with the bacon fat and lemon juice. Ample salt and pepper, some parmesan cheese.

I love a simple green salad with a vinaigrette and a medallion of goat cheese coated in bread crumbs or crushed pecans, either pan fried or broiled so it's warm and creamy. La Colline in Dc back in the day had the best salad just the same, and I recreate it at home when my salads seem boring.

+1 for beets. I love using Aunt Nellie's Pickled Beets in my salads.

Please don’t forget how delicious a taco salad is, particularly easy with leftovers and can be healthy too. I use romaine, tomatoes, black bens, leftover roasted veggies (bell peppers, onion, jalapenos, corn), chicken (I make a lot of broiled chili lime chicken and slow cooked mexican chicken). Toss with a big scoop of greek yougurt and a big scoop of salsa. Yum! Also good with a few crumbled tortilla chips and cheese.

Also, a mediterranean salad is yummy- falafels, veggies, olives and a tahini dressing!

Try adding grilled halloumi or toasted panko or spiced nuts instead of croutons

Ottolenghi has some great salad recipes. My favorite at the moment is a green bean salad with regular and Makrut lime dressing. I’m also eating lots of Thai salad that I make with smashed garlic, chilies and fish sauce.

Bump. It's that time of year when it's too hot to cook (and we don't have a grill).

Always looking for new and easy ways to jazz up big, enormous salads for dinner!

I have a pear vinegar that I bought at an olive oil farm, and somehow pear vinegar + olive oil makes even a boring salad so much more delicious. (I never use bottled dressings anyway because I'm picky!)

I always start with romaine and cucumber and then go from there. Today I added carrot, grilled chicken, cut up nectarine, sunflower seeds and pistachio nuts.

Herbs like fresh dill, mint or basil give a punch. I love almonds in my summer salads as well as cooled roasted carrots roasted in harissa. I also like fingerling potatoes and eggs with capers to add some carbs and protein if the salad is the meal. I disagree about sweet in salad; one of my summer favorites is arugula, fennel, mandarin slices, and Parmesan dressed in a grapefruit vinaigrette.

I've been making a copycat salad from a restaurant near me. Mixed greens, grilled chicken, roasted corn, avocado, dates, bacon, Bleu cheese (or goat or feta) and green goddess dressing or a simple vinaigrette. Delicious!!
