The statehood bill would transfer the costs of administering the courts, the increased Medicaid payment, and TAG when the new state certifies it can pay for those programs three or so years in a row. If the new state never certifies that it can pay, costs would not transfer. Republicans would stop those payments when they are in power so it’s in the new state’s interest to fund those programs without federal help.
