Bowser is testifying again in favor of statehood, while DC govt dissembles on statehood costs

It’s very clear in the constitution that DC was created as the federal district. On compromise that should appeal to some Republicans is to keep the present status as the federal district, with home rule but federal interests also protected. It would not be a state, but would have at least one elected senator and one congressman. This would satisfy our desire for voting representation and would be constitutional.

Otherwise statehood advocates can continue to bang on their plastic drums, but statehood isn’t gonna’ get 60 votes — heck, not even 50 votes — in the Senate. And there’s a very good chance that 18 months, the Dems won’t have a majority in either chamber.
