The United States Postal Service is responsible for mail delivery.

And DMV is very efficient!

I was born here and could give two figs for statehood. It's a totally drummed up hipster cause.

How about Area 51?

You don’t care that 700,000 Americans have zero say in Federal matters??

Statehood is long overdue, and creating the State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth is a way of correcting a historical error

When the District government can't even maintain a simple bridge over I-295, its outrageous that Bowser's people shrug off the extra billions on dollars in recurring costs that statehood would cost Washington DC.

It’s literally the opposite of an “error.” This is specifically the way the founders wanted it.

But they can spend the last 12 months virtue signaling by closing streets to traffic. Meanwhile this is happening on an interstate that they are not capable of maintaining. Who is setting the priorities over there?

First, these are 700,000 Americans who choose to live where they live; they are not forced to live in DC. Second, the DC Delegate can — among other things — introduce legislation, sit on and vote in committees, and speak on the House floor. To say that DC residents have “zero say in Federal matters” is flat out wrong.

If you wish to have a voting member of Congress and two Senators, you have the freedom to move to any of the 50 states. No one will stop you.

+1. And in a year or two DC will be majority white. Statehood supporters know they will lose their tired racist talking point so they will try, unsuccessfully, to get this done this year. It won’t happen, but not because of Republicans. It won’t happen because a lot of Democratic senators are not going to give up their leverage.

If the colonists had your attitude, we would still be eating tea and crumpets and praising our Britsh overlords.

If you think DC statehood will happen, I have a bridge to sell you...oh wait, never mind, it collapsed.

Nope, since we are allowed to move. We know the score. And most of DC (unlike me) is people who willingly moved in, and can move out again. We do have Eleanor Holmes Norton, who has speakers' rights. It's fine.

Not to mention, I am very sure that not many Democratic Senators would believe that there are currently two DC politicians worthy of the Senate.

Who says the Senators elected from DC are going to be current DC politicians? The possibilities are endless.
