Yorktown senior makes Olympic team in record fashion

Here you have a star who any high school in the area would love to have. Her parents could have sent her anywhere. Obviously the school isn't "overrated" to them.

There are those who know, and those who only think they know.

I am a Yorktown parent -- and a Yorktown basher. It is unbelievably overrated.

Wow. That’s actually huge. That rowing title would be the first Varsity 8 state championship boat in Wakefield HS history. Hope the school puts a banner up.

Congrats to the Wakefield girls!

And the Sun Gazette actually highlights it.

My girls rowed for Yorktown and won all kinds of titles. It meant nothing. One, maybe two, teammates were semi-recruited by colleges.

But, hey, if any of those Wakefield girls make the Olympic rowing team come back and let us know.

Meant nothing to you. It isn't all about full-ride scholarships to Ivy League schools and Olympic teams.
But I understand your intent was actually to belittle any achievement by Wakefield and keep Wakefield "in its place."

Lots of boats can win titles, but for a Varsity 8 boat to win is a very big deal. Wakefield now joins W-L and Yorktown (and other elite rowing programs) as having V8 state championships. (The varsity 8 is the premier boat in rowing.)

I think this is the PP's problem. Maybe her girls weren't on the Yorktown Varsity 8 victory and WAkefield's joining their ranks diminishes Yorktown's superiority.

So bizarre for the Yorktown poster to make such a BFD about the swimmer and then turn around and dismiss the Wakefield girls out of hand.

There are plenty of local rowers recruited by schools, and some ended up on Olympic teams as well.

So much for Yorktown being overrated.

Yorktown had nothing to do with it.

Thank goodness Duran didn’t have to sign off on her going to the Olympic trials. She would of had the same fate as our track team at the state championships.

Do you people know the meaning of churlish? That describes this thread.

It’s a bit late to try and hit the reset button on this one. OP set the tone and then doubled down.

Oh well! I'm just going to be delighted that Torri made the team and will be cheering her on with my teens who see her as a great role model.

Make that 3. On the men’s side, Andrew Seliskar from McLean is also going. He’s a TJ alum (2016, I think) who swam for TJ while he was there. How you become an elite swimmer and graduate from TJ I have no idea.
