Yorktown senior makes Olympic team in record fashion

Tom Dolan, another Olympic gold medal holder, also went to Yorktown. There are a lot of good year round swimmers in this area.

Yes, and there have been Olympic soccer and track athletes and gymnasts from Lake Braddock, Olympic rowers from McLean, Olympic long-distance runners from South Lakes, and sprinters from TC Williams.

We cheer them on during the Olympics, but it doesn’t validate their high schools like OP is trying to suggest - particularly in the case of a swimmer.

Her parents chose to enroll a superstar student athlete at Yorktown High School. They have good sense, obviously.

Her parents chose to have her do private swim coaching.

+1. She wore her AAC swim cap at the Olympic trials, not her Yorktown swim cap.

The Yorktown High School swim coaches trained her? I’m confused as to what the school had to do with her swimming success unless she was training on the Yorktown swim team.

You all are missing the point entirely. Jealous posters love to bash Yorktown as second tier, overrated, etc., because it's become so expensive to buy into the district now.

Here you have a star who any high school in the area would love to have. Her parents could have sent her anywhere. Obviously the school isn't "overrated" to them.

There are those who know, and those who only think they know.

Good luck to her in the Olympics! I'm sure we'll all be watching.

I'm not saying Yorktown had anything to do with her success. What I'm saying is she could have gone anywhere, yet Yorktown was good enough for her.

For her parents. They're the ones who chose where to live and to put her in public education. And of course Yorktown was good enough for her. It's good enough for anyone. So are the other Arlington high schools.

Lol has nothing to do with Yorktown and everything to do with the quality of private swim coaches around here

Yorktown is overrated. Having an occasional Olympic athlete attend doesn't make a school's academic program any better or worse.

This has nothing to do with Yorktown - these swimmers do year round club swim but it is exciting to have a local swimmer going to the Olympics!! Congrats to her and good luck!!

+1

I've never heard of Arlington Aquatic Club but I'm sure its going to suddenly get a lot of interest from local swimmers.

She is awesome. My kids swim against her and say she is gracious and kind. Wishing her many medals!!

But Yorktown has nothing to do with it. It's AAC.

I would also credit her hard work and talent.

His swim school was great.

I'm so excited to have two local swimmers to cheer for! Go Torri and Katie!

You keep overplaying your hand. Yorktown does punch below its weight, given its demographics, and a swimmer simply isn’t going to change that assessment.
