WWYD? Groceries delivered to wrong address and kept by neighbor

If someone delivered food to me that I didn't order and left it on my step, I wouldn't know what to do either. I'd probably take it inside too so it doesn't spoil and go to waste. It's problem if say it were delivered by instacart, which I don't have an account for. I'm not going to sign up for an account just to figure out how to return a misdelivery.

+1.

With two dogs, I know when someone makes a delivery. I would take it inside too and just assume someone would come get it.

You just knock on your door and say, "hey, I believe my WF groceries were delivered here by mistake, see they sent a photo and it looks like it's here."

I don't understand why people can't just talk to people. They didn't steal your groceries.

Yes, this shouldn't be a 3 (soon to be more probably) page thread. I have social anxiety and even I wouldn't have thought twice or worried about getting my groceries.

I don't have social anxiety, but I do have gun anxiety. As a POC, I have tried knocking on doors before and then been yelled at over the intercom to get off the porch at best, and confronted with a gun in my face at worst. If this were a normal country, I'd have no problem talking to people, but it isn't.

OP, are you black? Because if you are and this neighbor is white, just call Whole Foods. Don't take the risk.

Dh did this last year. I wasn't home when delivery came and he figured that he forgot that I told him a delivery was coming. So he put everything away and it wasn't until several hours later when I got home and was going to get something from the fridge that I noticed the new food. Dh was busy and I figured he had run out when I was out. It wasn't until hours later when I thanked DH for making the grocery store run did we realize what happened. We still had the info (that dh never bothered to check) and sheepishly had to explain the situation to the neighbor and explain how some of the groceries had been eaten. Thankfully they found it funny!

My friend once sent a Whole Foods, unexpected delivery, no name on bag. We didn’t know what to do and put groceries inside. I don’t think everyone has the nefarious intent people allude to. We eventually got msg from her, but it does happen re deliveries with no name listed.

KNOCK AND ASK!

In the typical busy household where several people order deliveries, without necessarily consulting each other, an order can easily be confused for another.

We've received other people's orders, and neighbors have received ours. We could not trace the order that came to us by mistake, as the buyer was out of our area and no one came to claim it, but we've retrieved our orders from neighbors.

The photo in the message is not my front door but there were several identifying items - a mat, bike and pair of shoes. DH ran out right away and was able to place it as the same unit number in the next building over. The problem is that the bags had already been taken inside by the owner. This seriously happened within a couple of minutes! Whole Foods drivers don't even knock when they leave your order so the occupants clearly worked fast.

We don't know these neighbors at all or even what they look like. DH wasn't sure if he should knock but ended up doing nothing. I wouldn't necessarily want to food anyway after it had been in someone else's home.

I know I can get a refund, but this situation still aggravates me as it was over $100 worth of food, some of it slated for dinner tonight. WWYD in this situation if you were me or the neighbor? Would you automatically take in and keep an order you didn't place/pay for? Would you confront someone who took your order?

How would they know whose food it is.

If the grocercies have been inside their home, why would you even want it back from them? Just contact WF and get a refund or another delivery.

They might have ordered too.

We once placed a Whole Foods order and got someone else's stuff. We called Amazon to let them know and they said they would fix it and send the right order to us. I asked what about the wrong stuff that was delivered - and to my surprise they said "keep it, we will fix the other order." Maybe too much trouble for them to do anything else with it?

Me either, especially during a pandemic.

How about go to the store and buy groceries?

What else would you expect them to do? Esp. on a warm/hot day?

I'd be mad at my husband for being such a pansy that he's afraid to knock on the door and ask for the groceries that were delivered two hot seconds ago, and then I'd walk over and ask for them, show the picture if necessary.
