WWYD? Groceries delivered to wrong address and kept by neighbor

The photo in the message is not my front door but there were several identifying items - a mat, bike and pair of shoes. DH ran out right away and was able to place it as the same unit number in the next building over. The problem is that the bags had already been taken inside by the owner. This seriously happened within a couple of minutes! Whole Foods drivers don't even knock when they leave your order so the occupants clearly worked fast.

We don't know these neighbors at all or even what they look like. DH wasn't sure if he should knock but ended up doing nothing. I wouldn't necessarily want to food anyway after it had been in someone else's home.

I know I can get a refund, but this situation still aggravates me as it was over $100 worth of food, some of it slated for dinner tonight. WWYD in this situation if you were me or the neighbor? Would you automatically take in and keep an order you didn't place/pay for? Would you confront someone who took your order?

Its probably a mistake. We literally get orders here everyday. My husband or kids would totally bring in bags of food and assume I had ordered them.

Knock on their door and ask them for it or leave a note with contact info.

Report it missing, get a refund.

THIS!
No need to “confront”, just ask. Also, please do not assume that the people who live in that particular apartment are the ones who have your food.
Personally, I would contact Whole Food about the error. The longer it is away from me, the more I wouldn’t want it back. Good luck OP.

They're probably being nice and refrigerating your perishables for you and brought inside the other stuff to discourage porch pirates.
They're probably posting on Nextdoor right now about a mistaken grocery delivery or hoping somebody knows where Jane Doe Llives bc they have griceries.

Yup. The problem is that WholeFoods orders they often put an incorrect name on orders. I had a neighbor who received an order for "Craig" but there is no Craig that lives anywhere on their street (she knows the neighbors on her street). She brought it in, put the perishables in the fridge and then went to the neighborhood FB group and posted it and we tried to help, but she never did find out who the order was for (I found a Craig on the next street over from hers, and she walked to their house, but they hadn't ordered anything from WholeFoods).

And OP, ours was in a neighborhood of SFH, so this doesn't just happen in apartment complexes. Go to the neighbor's ring the bell, show them the photo and ask if your groceries showed up there. If the neighbor denies that they have the groceries, then report to WF that the photo shown is not your door and the groceries did not arrive. See if they can replace the order today. If not, get a refund and send someone to the store to get what you need for dinner.

They probably put it in the fridge while they figured out what to do with it.

Just knock and ask.

I would just contact Whole Foods and ask for a redelivery or refund. I wouldn’t want stuff that’s been in another house but that’s me.

or took a nibble. Just have it redelivered and be done with it.

Does Whole Foods deliver things in unsealed packages? I can not understand how you would not know if someone had taken a nibble.

Good grief, it’s hot outside, they brought it inside and are probably waiting for the people who ordered it to come knock and get it! Why on earth would you track it down only to not knock and take it home??

HOw are they supposed to know it's your order? It's just groceries outside the door. Go over and ask for them. They probably don't want your soy milk and cheerios.

It has a label with name and address on all the bags. Strange that the neighbors did not knock on their door. I would just ask WF for a refund.

My whole foods orders never have my name and address on them. Ever. And I order 3X a week.

My always does but I live in DC downtown and get it delivered from the P St store. So it may depend on the store.

Not the ones delivered to our neighborhood. This was discussed recently when someone found groceries on their step. WF apparently puts random names on the orders and not the name of the recipient. Not sure why they bother with a fake name, but they do.
