Do you agree with this undergrad list

Best undergraduate, I changed my mind a bit...
1. Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, MIT, Yale

1b. Columbia, Caltech, Upenn, U Chicago

2. Duke, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Dartmouth

2b. Brown, Williams, Amherst

3?. Vanderbilt, Cornell, Swarthmore, Rice, Pomona,

3b?. Emory, Notre Dame, WashU, Georgetown, Bowdoin, UCLA, UCB, CMU

4. UVA, Umich, Tufts, Wellesley, USC, UNC, CMC

I think 3 and 3b is splitting hairs.

Upenn shouldn't be 1b because of its relatively weak CAS program, and we should assess these schools as a whole instead of splitting them into their specific programs. UChicago also shouldn't be in that tier because of their extensive use of marketing to unqualified applicants and admitting 80% of their class through two ED rounds—an indication that they're still not a top-choice school for many.

Yale should come before Princeton. MIT should be the last school in the tier as they only focus on STEM.

4. Duke, Northwestern
5. Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, JHU
6. Amherst, Williams, Swarthmore, Pomona

This list sounds quite reasonable. Thankyou.

However, Brown, Dartmouth, Amherst and Williams should be ahead of Penn CAS. Penn CAS is not special in comparison.

Agree maybe Penn CAS should move down to 4 or 5

Folks, you see this is an enticing parlor game with big cultural and financial stakes in the minds of students and parents, exactly as envisaged by the companies which compile these lists.

It is all manipulation, but then parlor games have that element of enticement.

The real key is that the student should give his/her best effort wherever the person goes.

I knew superficial bozos at Harvard and Yale who were notice people and should never have been accepted there, and other students ( many !) who were brilliant, wonderful students and rolemodels from state universities

Good list, maybe i would bump down JHU by one tier

Plus, the colleges and universities set themselves up for these obnoxious parlor games by charging outrageous tuition fees.

it is really an American disgrace where fees are higher than what most people earn in America.

Also, I think Emory should be grouped under 1, just based on the reputation of their Engineering program.

Solid troll right here.

I'm really amazed that people have so much information about every single one of these schools that they are able to parse their quality so precisely!

Columbia has lower rate than Princeton or Yale's, but not a single soul believes it's a better school. So rates alone is somewhat misleading

Well, there we are. People vote with their feet and with application submissions.

No wonder why there are so many college prep programs along with the companies involved in the ranking industry. A gold mine across several industries feeding off the field of education.

Moreover, how to donut hole families pay for any of these universities - tuitions start at $50K unless you're instate for the publics?!? We'll receive no financial aid, and yet I can't pay $250-300K per kid. Even if I could, I don't think I would on principle.

Also Columbia usually gets crushed when comparing cross admit data vs. Yale or Princeton, so there you go

Agree this is the best list I've seen so far here. Push down Penn to 4, then perfect
