wait list movement

Is this normal or another covid-influenced issue?

Many kids don’t wait until the last minute to make their choice. When they accept an offer, they are supposed to notify other schools they are declining. So spaces open up.

And thanks a million to the teens who do this --as it is a big courtesy to the kids on the wait list!!!

I can’t imagine they would move at the Ivys or next tier schools anyway.

If he's going to lose his mind waiting until summer then you and he approached the whole process wrong. He hasn't been accepted yet at any college that he'd be perfectly happy to attend?

He has accepted but is holding out hope. He got WL at 4 schools.
He would choose any of them over his current selection. That’s not to say he won’t be fine there, but he was shooting higher and is hoping to get off one. They are all next tier down from Ivys, and I don’t think there is much of a chance. Every day he goes around saying, “I just one to get off one. Just one.” He is very on edge.

All this anxiety, and my kid is choosing his in-statesafety.

He got into 3 of his reaches (top 40 colleges) and doesn't care.

YMMV

If you put a deposit and accept an offer now, and got off the WL after May 1. Do you just loose the deposit? Is there any rule against doing it?

That is exactly what people do.

Yes, of course you lose the deposit at school #1 if you take a WL offer from school #2.

No matter what, you gotta commit at one college before the deadline or else your SOL.

Are you sure? Seems odd since just yesterday Wisconsin admissions sent an email to everyone waitlisted asking them to submit another essay.
