Just Stop. My kids don’t attend but these results should make the students and the school
proud. We should all celebrate the fact that there is another city wide option in which motivated kids can succeed. All families can’t move to neighborhoods with high performing public schools. Likewise, most families cannot afford private. It feels great to know that there is another free option available to kids from all over the city. I am cheering you on DCI!! Way to go Class of 2021! This DC resident is proud of you!

Is it really an option though when you have to first get into one of the feeders? You have to literally win the lottery for DCI to be an option.

But anyone can enter the lottery. The only preference that applies is sibling preference. So yes, that makes it a very real option for hundreds of families every year. The point is that when we have additional options on the table, we all win. Instead of posting snarky comments meant to belittle the accomplishments of the kids who attend these schools, the “ adults in the room” should be encouraging and supporting their success. DCI is not a good fit for every kid (no school is), but I am so pleased that it, warts and all, is working very well for families with graduates in the 2021 class. The acceptances and parent feedback demonstrate that. I hope that future classes enjoy the same type of success. Thanks for sharing the good news!

To DCI or the feeders? Because no, the feeders get their allotted slots and the only ones open in the general lottery are those not taken by the feeders. Which is mostly just Chinese, never Spanish. It has feeders and works differently than Latin or Basis.

The HS grads this year had LOTS of Spanish track outsiders.

That’s fine, but church the lottery data. It’s not truly “another option” with only sibling preference for anything other than Chinese. Like has been said, there are only enough seats for 60% or so of kids coming from feeder schools, let alone anyone in the regular lottery.

Actually, there are at least two ivy admissions so far (in early decisions). The regular decisions don't come out until April. Also, I see Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, Ga Tech, UCLA and Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr on naviance acceptances for this year.

OK, but Naviance acceptances are self-reported by families, not the gospel truth.

Are you so skeptical that you think all these kids are lying? That you want concrete proof? Guess you can say that about all the kids at the other schools are lying too.

No kids at the school, but I find it really sad with people like above or those that say the kids are not strong or the school is not strong. Yes both have been posted above. You need both a strong student and a strong curriculum for these accomplishments. It’s not one or the other.

These people are just so insecure about themselves or their school that they have to put down others. That is the saddest part.

As DC residents, we should all be happy that there is another viable and potential middle/high school option for DC kids.

Great job DCI and the class of 2021!

I am curious how all of these acceptances happen if the school has as many behavioral problems as folks post about? DCI’s reputation as being lax and not firm in their management is what concerns me about sending a child here.

Shame on PP for trying to find reasons to tear down DCIs success
One: families have to provide acceptance letters for Naviance inclusion so you’re wrong on that front
Two: the “behavioral problems” are not there in any greater numbers than in any middle/high school. These are teens! Instead, this is code for families to use who want a reason to flee to exclusionary schools where they think their kids will be with others like themselves. Then they pretend to be woke. It’s the DC way.

Behavior is a big concern in the middle school more so than the high school. A lot of students drop out of DCI to go to Roosevelt stay or withdraw and go to other schools. The senior classes have been much smaller than what they started out as. I wish DCI did a better job of getting the teens to stay.

I would think families WOTP in the Deal and Wilson feeders would be ecstatic about this.

Families that would move WOTP for middle and high school might now view DCI as a potential option. That means potentially less kids in what is already severe overcrowding issue in these schools.

Untrue. Knock it off. Less than 8 kids have gone there ever.

Huh? What are you so upset about? Who are you?

Someone who hates it when people post untrue and dumb shit about my school community. DCI does better with diversity on all indicators than other DC schools dream of.
That's who.

What was untrue?

The part about students going to Roosevelt stay?

The part about students withdrawing?

The part about the senior classes being smaller than when they started?

The part about discipline being more of a problem in the middle school?

DCI has also discriminated against students and staff, but I guess you would never admit that about your “community”.

Does anyone know how much scholarship money the class got?

It is hard to say, these kids probably don't have the option to bribe, lie, and cheat their way like your kids or other 1%ers. They have to rely on merit and compelling life experiences, not bougie Bethesda bucks.

Like $8 million so far.

And Bucknell, Elon, UMD, Pitt, Penn State, Ohio State, UMass and more.

And Virginia Tech, Purdue, UNCs, UCBoulder, too.

A few more up there: Wake Forest, Carnegie Mellon, and RIT.
