My gift back for you PP.. this is not Shtisel related but the music in this movie is amazing.. wit for the scene with cows.. OMG.. see it .. that piece that starts at 1:20 marker.. even better in the movie.. |
| Srugim is a 3-season Israeli drama that is excellent, too. |
| This show led me to Srugim, which was also well worth it. |
Tell us more, you got our attention. |
| I liked Srugim until she moved to the settlement and then I couldn't enjoy it anymore. |
I paid to see the first on December 17th and a Milwaukee JCC offered the first three episodes this past weekend. Three episodes in, season three is every bit as good as the prior seasons. |
OOOOOOOOOOHhh... you lucky dog!!!!
I would ask you for spoil ins because I love to know but I know others would jump me so I have to wait but just tell u s.. do they move the action to US or stay in Israel? They were talking about moving it to Williamsburg NY.. just say yes or no..

If you enjoyed this, what else have you loved?
I’ve liked: My brilliant friend The night of |
Ha! It was $36 and worth it! |
Still in Israel. Otherwise, my lips are sealed. There is supposed to be an American version being made but the story line is nothing like the original. I learned of these things on the Facebook discussion group which actually has very interesting posts. |
DP here. Srugim is on Amazon Prime, 3 seasons. It is about a more "modern" stream of Orthodox Jews in Israel, dati leumi. By American standards, this would still be a very conservative religious community, but it's a much less sheltered, less restrictive, less sex-segregated community than the Yerushalmi charedim in Shtisel. The main characters in Srugim are working young dati leumi singles working their way through dating (in their way), career issues, and finding their place religiously. |
I should clarify I was on 11/12 of the first season. I’ve now finished the first season. NOT the grandma!!!! |
I love Srugim, too. It’s a very different vibe from Shtisel but also smart and funny. Be prepared to see Lippe from Shtisel in a whole new light! There are a couple others from Shtisel who are also in Srugim. |
Totally! I've watched Sugim all the way through twice. It's very different, but what I feel is similar about it is that it was made with a lot of attention to the details of the community in which it takes place and it doesn't try to sensationalize it. Another show that I have heard is also very good is Shababnikim, but I believe that one isn't currently available on any of the main streaming platforms. I haven't seen it yet. https://m.jpost.com/israel-news/culture/shababnikim-televisions-bad-boys-of-yeshiva-542597
