No. Only people who go to the top 10 colleges in the country get jobs. Everyone else is unemployed for the rest of their lives.

Anonymous wrote:OP here. I guess there's a fine line between gloating/bragging and celebrating.

To me, gloating is more like if I am happy others aren't succeeding which is not the case here. It would be great, as far as I'm concerned, if everyone got what they wanted/needed.

However, I do think DCUM, the DMV in general and my kids' friends and their parents are a bit overly frothed up about high-status schools and that is one of the reasons I posted here. I want to reassure other parents that it's not highly-SLAC or die. There are many options for many types of kids and, in fact, some kids would be happier and more successful at less selective schools because those other schools are a better fit for the individual.

I am sensitive to other's feelings and haven't posted on social media and have only told a few select friends/family. Seeing as this is an anonymous forum, I figured it would be safe to be a little celebratory without hurting anyone's feelings.

Not everyone can get a full-tuition scholarship. Then all colleges and universities will go broke. It's for a select few, probably the top 5% within your kid's college. So, huge congrats to OP and his or her kid!

Actually, they are usually given by the second and third tier schools in exchange for something they want that they can report to USN&WR. If your child scores over a certain point over the ACT and SAT you will get unsolicited calls offering full-tuition scholarships as my DD did - but they are probably not schools that a top stats. kid would want to go too. Or in-state is still less expensive sometimes.

What’s even funnier...

Mom and. dad: you can’t major in music you’ll never find a job.

Ff a few years later

Son: I’m quitting my job because I’m making more money with my music than I am with my job and I can do both, don’t freak out.

Mom snd dad: sometimes parents are wrong.

He still plays tor orchestras and (I don’t really understand the rest) commercials, movie stuff.

It doesn’t sound like a scholarship from the school it sounded like a private scholarship.

What kind of school considers mediocre stats to be top percentile of applicants? Or awards a full tuition scholarship based on one essay? OP, you’d better check the fiscal health of this institution because something is not adding up. Your “victory” now may become a disappointment later if the school isn’t able to maintain its viability down the road.

Seriously. She wrote “boom” in the title!

I love how no thread is immune to the mean girls of DCUM.

NP. The boom part sounds like — or is — bragging. If the title of this thread were “Harvard Admission - Boom!” there’s no question that would be bragging. Not seeing how this is different.

Agree. And I bet she wrote the essay for her self described "average kid".
