Must people always piss in other peoples wheaties? OP—ignore these people. Your son and your family should be thrilled that your son will graduate from college debt free!

Eh, the OP needs a bit more humility. Don't gotta put down people who care about prestige or whatever to raise yourself up.

Did you just say that!?

The Eh, Meh, person always sounds like a drunk in a bar tapping on her phone. I don't read her posts. If she can't bother with posting a complete sentence and not sounding like a drunk, then her comments aren't worth my time.

I posted that and that was the first and only time I have ever used the word Eh.
And I stand by what I said.

Google “Dcurbanmoms” and “meh” and “eh” and you’ll see it come up many times. The practice even comes up in those “what posters do you hate on DCUM?” threads twice a year. Is there any reason you must start a post using it? It’s so unnecessary-like the women who begin every story with the insecure “So.....”.

Is there any reason you think you’re the arbiter of what words other people use?

You seriously look down on all the kids- thousands of kids-who go to “mediocre schools...where folks would only send their kids if it’s free”? You know those kids are going to go to college, have fun, learn some stuff and then become adults, get jobs and have regular adult lives- just like your kids! When you’re an adult no one cares where you went to college! I have friends who went to Ivies, SLACS, community Colleg and everything in between. No.one.cares. Please get over yourselves. Honestly.

+1.

Anonymous wrote:What kind of school considers mediocre stats to be top percentile of applicants? Or awards a full tuition scholarship based on one essay? OP, you’d better check the fiscal health of this institution because something is not adding up. Your “victory” now may become a disappointment later if the school isn’t able to maintain its viability down the road.

Yeah, doesn’t pass the sniff test for me.

+2. Congratulations and don’t listen to the haters on this thread, dcum way overvalues school rankings as a means to professional success. I think they are just terrified that all the extra tutoring sessions and tuition they are paying is going to land their kid right next to your kid in the working world. They want to feel like it was all worth it, even if it wasn’t.

It is wonderful news. Period. Not everyone can go to Harvard.

OP-- I am guessing that your child wrote his essay completely on his own with no help other than editing. To that I say, hear, hear. This is great that he received this based on his own work with no college consultant or essay consultant. Kol hakovod-- All the respect!

Congratulations!

If any of you are considering Juniata College, and know an alumni, be aware that they award a "scholarship" of $1,000 per year that only requires the alum to recommend you.

https://apply.juniata.edu/register/jcs

The deadline for the recommendation to be accepted is December 1st of the applicant's senior year in high school. Keep this in mind if your child will be considering that school.

(PS- most kids also get a substantial aid package, but this one is automatic...so it should be a no brainer!)

You must be very proud of your child.

Many colleges give scholarships based on an essay. Too bad you're not aware of these possibilities!

Name one college that gives full tuition for 4 based on an essay. Seriously, I am curious.
