The prices speak to the demand and history of this area. Dislike McLean all you want, but the people want houses in close in suburbs zoned to good public schools. Whenever I see "cheap McMansion" or "****shack" comments, there is a problem with that individual coming to terms with the market values. This person clearly falls in that camp and is just highly insecure about their personal choices. |
People are weirdly proud of never leaving an area or going elsewhere. You're really hostile, why are you polluting a thread that's mainly people trying to help the OP? I think you're part of the reason so many people tend to dislike the area. I have no idea where Albemarle County is, nor do I care. Then again, I'm not a "third generation Washingtonian", not even a third (or first) generation American. But I do own one of those expensive crappy McMansions in McLean, so I can speak to OP's questions about the neighborhoods. To add to the horror, the builder tore down a 60s bungalow a couple of years that was on an acre and built it. He did have the decency to leave the old trees though. |
I don't think that person is even arguing with the same posters. They do sound a little unhinged (DCUM favorite!) though. Not sure why everyone is supposed to be on their knees crying. Sure, McLean has changed. Used to be Feds and lower level employees living here. Only ones left are those that inherited the property or the money. It's pretty hard to buy in on a gov salary now. Sucks, but that's the reality. |
| Not many McMansions in McLean, unless you just think anything new and big qualifies regardless of quality or style. Whatever. PP sounds like a teenager. NoVa has horrendous architecture in general, but I love the area. McLean in particular is a great location, everything is nearby, and great schools. I don’t think you can go wrong in McLean, OP. It’s just that even an old 60s ranch will run $1 million and sell before its listing is live. |
I don't think a third-generation Washingtonian automatically brings much to the table when discussing McLean, other than perhaps a preference that it remain largely rural and not compete with DC for buyers. And his comments were random. Picking three McLean neighborhoods out of a hat and saying the rest suck is like saying "Kalorama, Spring Valley, and Woodley Park are nice, but the rest of DC is a s***hole." This profile from Arlington Magazine covers McLean's more expensive neighborhoods, which some might consider among the nicer as well. https://www.arlingtonmagazine.com/mcleans-10-most-expensive-neighborhoods-2019/ |
