Do you care what time your teen wakes up on weekends?

Why? This makes no sense at all.

She had this policy even on the summers I spent at her house while I was in college. I was always a good daughter, student and did all the chores she wanted, so it was ridiculous that I couldn't sleep in on the weekend. In high school, I had to be at the bus stop at 5:55 am and always felt sleep deprived no matter what I did.

Was she a monster in other ways? It’s hard to picture someone who would do this as being a nice person the rest of the time. Were naps allowed?

It's better than my mother waking me up at 7 am on Saturday and Sundays, forcing me to jog even in the rain in order to avoid becoming obese.

Yikes. Did she jog with you? She sounds very disordered.

Frequently a moot point because they have a reason to be up...otherwise up by 9. They are busy and always lamenting not having time to do everything they want. So, with a free morning my oldest will draw or write and my youngest will program...or they both will play guitar, or even watch a movie together.

It’s not good for him to be sleeping in 4-5 hours later than they normally wake up.

Also, they will have trouble falling asleep if they wake up too late. Mine need to go to sleep by 11 or max 11:30 on weekends.

This. Also my kids have chores and extra curriculars so they have to get up anyway. They don’t complain or think it’s weird.

When my kid was a baby the nurse told me babies and teens need a lot of sleep because they are developing rapidly. I will let my tens sleep as long as they need.

Make sure to take the phone away so they fall asleep at a reasonable hour, too.

We only wake if there is a sport or other reason. On sundays he can sleep til whenever (although it’s mostly not past 11).

Why is your teen going to bed at 11? Bedtime for us has always been 7:30. Won’t change unless there is a lot of homework. Typically only a few times a year it has to be later because of homework.

No, didn't at all. DS and DD needed a lot of sleep to grow. DS had a constitutional growth delay.
Honestly, DD was so unpleasant for a while that longer she slept the better for me!

+1 I can't believe this poster has latched on to something a nurse told her 10+ years ago instead of looking at what the science shows.

NP. It doesn't make sense to those people who choose to ignore the science of sleep hygiene. The research is conclusive that maintaining a consistent sleep schedule is important to ensuring sufficient sleep. This applies not just to babies/children but to teens and adults.
