I used to like Taylor Swift, but now I find her annoying.

Yes, I have an opinion on her hairstyle. I'm sorry that it bothers you that you can't control that.

^^^^^ defensive wow!

Np. Reading this thread (plus seeing the numerous threads praising her mediocrity) seems more like Taylor Swift fans are very much the defensive ones.

Nope! You are super defensive.

People like her you don’t, who cares.

Well this post shows how much you don’t care.

It’s an interesting conundrum, because I find people who can sing almost unlistenable sometimes, like Mariah Carey, Celine, and Beyoncé. We all know you can sing the hell out of a cereal box... so stop over singing and tell me a real story. This is also a place I like artists like Pink, Gaga, and Miley... when they decide to really show their talent, it’s incredible.

I’ll never understand this. I rather listen to someone with actual range and pitch then listen to someone struggle sing.

Also, I wouldn’t pull Gaga down to Miley, Pink or Taylor level. Gaga is immensely talented with great vocals.

Miley Cyrus is a fantastic vocalist. Gaga is meh. And you can find a million vocalists with range and pitch in church choirs across the country - songwriting and composition and delivery are much more than that! That said, good vocals are one reason I like country. But good vocals also don’t make up for hackneyed writing and composition and delivery.

Gaga is meh?! Are you kidding me? I think you need to get your ears checked.

you hear Miley “lisp and struggle”? Have you ever listened to her live? She’s one of the best vocalists of her generation. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RohMY7957oM

Most of her commercially produced recordings are terrible to listen to unless you are drunk/high in a club. Acoustic is better. I don’t like her art school/club kid schtick.

You need to actually listen to her live performances. I am actually a Taylor Swift stan, but there's absolutely no question that Miley sings circles around her. She's a fantastic vocalist. https://criticofmusic.com/vocal-profile-and-range-miley-cyrus

Lol, her hits would sound better if I was. Just put on Poker Face or Telephone. They're horrible to listen to, good to dance to. That's not the sum total of her work, but her club/druggie shtick is bad.

Miley’s rendition of Silent Night on the Bill Murray Netflix Christmas special is far and away the best version that song I have ever heard. I was shocked because I didn’t realize how good she was...

Um, you’re co fusing two artists in the discussion?

In any case, Gaga made bank writing for other artists, and Just Dance Poker Face are the things that put Gaga on the radio and got her popular acclaim.

Sorry, but “critical” acclaim doesn’t lay the bills these days, other than an article in some Indy magazine and Coffee house appointments. Say all you want about Gaga (which this thread isn’t about), but her “art school persona” has served her into a great career. She’s done an album with Tony Bennett, a Super Bowl, and an inauguration. In general, the gossip mags have little to offer about her. I’d say she’s doing fine.

In any case, Taylor’s done well for 15ish years in the business. She’s got some good role models looking out for her eg. Tim and Faith. He biggest scandals are dating too much and fighting back against a label and industry that really does exploit young talent. You can hate on her all you want, but she’s found her niche in two different music genres, and continues to market herself well despite not being able to have concerts and the like.

So, maybe she can’t sing as prolicallyas others, but she can sure connect with others somehow, or she wouldn’t have a career.

As an aside, it always makes me laugh that “no one” listens to certain artists: Taylor Swift, Nickelback, Justin Bieber, Miley, Gaga... etc. The sales speak for themselves. You don’t have to be Gen X anymore... it’s okay to like mainstream. I mean, even the Smiths were huge.

Pp you are responding. Nope, I didn’t confuse artists. I just hit submit too soon and didn’t care enough to finish the thought. No desire to write paragraphs. That is all.

Disagree. Mariah Carey sings and hits the notes better.
