I used to like Taylor Swift, but now I find her annoying.

DP. Agree with the PP you were quoting and I "certainly" have listened to her albums, though they were difficult to get through. People can listen to your hero and still not care for her albums.

She’s not a great vocalist and she had acknowledged such. It’s improved a lot but yeah her tone and range aren’t awesome. Her brilliance is in her songwriting. Kind of like Bob Dylan.

She’s killing it now, but she really would have killed it in the 70s when singer /songwriters were the go to. She is amazing at storytelling. Her vocals have improved through the years, and I give her a lot of credit for that.

It’s an interesting conundrum, because I find people who can sing almost unlistenable sometimes, like Mariah Carey, Celine, and Beyoncé. We all know you can sing the hell out of a cereal box... so stop over singing and tell me a real story. This is also a place I like artists like Pink, Gaga, and Miley... when they decide to really show their talent, it’s incredible.

Why are women so hard on women?
You don’t like her bangs? JFC

Yes, I have an opinion on her hairstyle. I'm sorry that it bothers you that you can't control that.

Np. Reading this thread (plus seeing the numerous threads praising her mediocrity) seems more like Taylor Swift fans are very much the defensive ones.

I’ll never understand this. I rather listen to someone with actual range and pitch then listen to someone struggle sing.

Also, I wouldn’t pull Gaga down to Miley, Pink or Taylor level. Gaga is immensely talented with great vocals.

Ariana Grande is downright vanilla, and unlike the other ones you listed, her target market is age 10-13 and her lyrics reflect that. But your misogyny and anger reminds me of something she and her fans went through because someone thought she was a "filthy skank."

Np. So I listen to new music by Ariana Grande and she definitely isn’t for kids. She sings about sex. However, I’m guessing her older stuff was geared more for kids? But she’s an adult and unlike Swift she didn’t wait to turn 30 before moving to more adult lyrics. I wouldn’t call her or any woman for that matter a filthy skank bc gross. Idk why someone would need to use that phrase when claiming to raise daughters. How wonderful to grow up in that environment where those terms are used.

I love Beyonce but I know exactly what you mean! The storytelling is the Nashville/country roots. And there’s a certain niche for singer-songwriters who don’t have the best voices - think Bob Dylan, Springsteen, etc.

Miley Cyrus is a fantastic vocalist. Gaga is meh. And you can find a million vocalists with range and pitch in church choirs across the country - songwriting and composition and delivery are much more than that! That said, good vocals are one reason I like country. But good vocals also don’t make up for hackneyed writing and composition and delivery.

Your ears hear something differently bc when I hear Miley I hear a lisp and struggle. Gaga has demonstrated her range and talent. You can find a million Miley’s struggling to make it. She got where she is bc of her father.

Taylor Swift has a much better voice than Bob Dylan. People just are not very kind towards women with lower vocal ranges.

Gaga is meh?! Are you kidding me? I think you need to get your ears checked.

Just want to say Pink’s vocals are underrated.

Also there is a difference between critiquing Taylor as a celebrity (which is a function of our overly celeb obsessed and not a little misogynist culture but I get it—I swim in the cultural waters too) and critiquing her as an artist.

Seems like the OP was doing the former.

Nope! You are super defensive.

People like her you don’t, who cares.
