People who don't wear a coat or cold gear when its freezing

Anonymous
I’m pretty much unaffected by temps, hot or cold. I love hot humid weather, and it doesn’t really get cold here. So I usually just wear a fleece jacket in the winter.

I ran out in shorts the other day. I am home all day and work out after dinner. No reason to change for a quick trip to the store to grab some milk for the morning.

It was 52 yesterday, and there were so many people in puffer coats, winter hats, and scarves.

That is insanity to me.

I don't like bulky clothes. If I'm running a quick errand I may not be wearing something warm. I may wear flip flops.

And these days, if I'm going to a doctor's office or something I don't want to bring my coat just to avoid putting my things on random surfaces.

If it gets chilly I will wear a t-shirt with my regular shirt. If it gets cold, around freezing, I need to wear a hat. Other than that the only outerwear I need is my windbreaker. It really doesn't get very cold here.

30's is not that cold. I grew up in northern Michigan and in thirties weather we were talking advantage of the heat and playing outside.

I’d expect that in south Florida or Southern California.

But in DC, 52 is a pretty nice temp for mid winter.

Chances are those people are on Autism Spectrum, often highly functioning as in "Asperger's".

"Some people with autism can tolerate extreme heat, cold or pressure and seem relatively insensitive to pain. Paradoxically, they may experience intense pain from idiosyncratic sources but struggle to communicate it."

Thyroid.
There are ton of people with thyroid issues here and they need to keep warm all the time or else. It is not about one warm day in the winter, it is about shifting internal machine to new temperatures and it is a long process, not a one day gig.

I generally don't care what other people wear as long as it doesn't affect me. It is frustrating when someone doesn't dress appropriately for the weather and it means you have change your plans (sitting inside on a breezy but lovely night, or cutting a hike short because someone didn't dress for the cold). But if it's just someone who doesn't feel cold like I do? I usually don't care.

But the one exception is men in flip flops in the winter. I'm not one of those "men must never wear sandals!" people. But there is something about some dad at the playground wearing flip flops in January that pisses me off. Maybe it's then mens feet are generally not pleasant to look at, so seeing them out of season feels like a bridge too far? Or maybe I am resentful because I'm always bundled to the gills and the idea of someone with enough internal heat to eschew socks and shoes in the dead of winter pisses me off. Not sure, but this is the one exception

Well I grew up in Southern California so 52 degrees is puffer weather for me.
And I agree with a PP who called out jeans in the summer. Gross.

I am so jealous of you! I have a small window of bearable temperatures.

As many as "some." So that's super sciency.

This book is about cold exposure and it's fascinating. I don't do it, but the book made me respect people who wear light clothing in the winter.

My husband isn't that extreme, but he's ok being out and about in a hoodie and no jacket when it's in the 40s. He just doesn't feel that cold.
