Chris Watts is exploring the possibility of appealing his sentence and hoping for a new trial

What is the point of discussing Chris’ ignorance about the financial situation? This is coming uncomfortably close to justifying or rationalizing his actions. He murdered his family, so her spending habits are completely irrelevant. He has no case.

Love this sub because you can see things from so many different viewpoints about a crazy high profile murder.

CW is a murderer in the worst definition of the word. Murdered his pregnant spouse in their bed and then murdered his tiny toddler girls one by one and did horrific things to dump the bodies.

He is the only one to blame for those atrocities. No one is saying otherwise.

But the entire cast of characters and side stories are both horrifying, crazy and thought inducing.

Nothing is ever what it seems. And every new detail is weirder than the next. There’s a reason true crime is so popular. People are interested by psychology and the intricacies of human behavior. And understanding the WHYs behind the things people do. I don’t think you can discuss this case without discussing what kind of person Shanann was. If you’re going to discuss a case, how can you NOT discuss the events leading up to it??

she was the literal worst. but that doesn't mean she deserved to get murdered.

What’s the story with this? Netflix doc does not cover.

In addition to the MLMs and driving the family into debt (not absolving Chris of his part of this but they lived far, far beyond their means), she just comes across as a deeply unlikeable person, obsessed with social media and attention. It's unclear if her MLM schemes brought in any incomes, and they were up to their eyeballs in debt. She comes across as the sort of person who wants a certain lifestyle and image and will spend to get it, which of course means she's not all that different from a large number of Americans. Obviously, that does not mean she deserved what happened to her, and he clearly deserves the heaviest punishment possible.

But it also shows how we've been conditioned to think less of victims who aren't as sympathetic.

If I recall she was making a decent salary, but their problem was money management. They should have sold that house to get out from under the debt, and rented something cheap to pay their bills. Easy solution, but
you'd be surprised how common that is with many people and professionals. The constant video was very annoying and not healthy for their family life. However, I find Chris and Nicole to be the worst villains. Shanann was what you saw and what you got. Those two were the worst, acting like normal people instead of the horror shows they really were. The worst monsters blend in, but have no problem destroying lives and families.

it was way more than the house...they had debt on a freaking nordstrom credit card. and they were sending their girls to a daycare that cost like $2500/month for 10+ hours a day even though shanann had no job besides the mlm. their house was being foreclosed on. they were on the brink of homelessness. the night of the murder, shanann's credit card was declined for a $50 hair product purchase. i do believe shanann was a shopping addict and i think both of them needed extensive, phd-level psychological help. the mcmansion was just the tip of the iceberg.

The implication of "financial infidelity" is that she was doing things with their money that Chris didn't know about. None of this information supports that--it sounds like he knew what a mess their finances were the whole way through.

really? where have you seen that? I watched an interview of him from the prison in Wisconsin and something that caught my attention was when they asked about finances. Chris replied to almost all questions either incorrectly (basing his answers on what he was told by SW?) or he didn't know. He said he knew the car was being paid for because Le-vel/Thrive was paying the bill. Wrong. Shanann only got a "bonus" to apply to the lease if she met the LeVel sales quota. They asked if Chris knew what "Monat" was - he had no idea. Seems the declined credit card charge the day of the murder was a monthly auto-ship Monat order, they asked several times but Chris had no clue - whereas I think the investigators were hip to all her MLM spending. Chris asked if it was a "sample box" that she got every month or two. I'm assuming that's something like FabFitFun box that he may have seen come in. It goes on and on but made it very clear to me that Chris had absolutely no clue how much (or little) Shanann made trying to recruit people to Thrive or how much she actually spent not only on Thrive products but other MLM products, clothing/shoes for her & the girls, toys, gifts, samples, giveaways, etc.

I do think Chris HAD to have realized they were not doing well financially but from everything I've read it doesn't seem like he knew just how financially destitute they were and facing a real catastrophe. I think that came during the time SW was in NC for several weeks before the murders while he was at home in CO and a cycle of bills and overdue notices began coming in.

That actually makes sense. She was gone for like six weeks or something.

They had already filed bankruptcy once. I imagine he was frustrated at ending up exactly where they were before again. Plus the HOA was suing them.

Anyone think he is doing this to rat on the mistress?

Are you confusing murder cases?

Chris Watts GF/OW had no hand in the murders or the desecration of the bodies. That was all him. So there’s nothing to charge her with or reduce his sentence with.

Now if this was Jennifer Dulos or Kelsey Berreth, where the OW actually helped clean up the crime scene - then, yeah.

Nicole Kessinger claims she didn't know he was married and yet she searched terms like "marrying your mistress" and "man I'm having an affair with says he will leave his wife." She spent hours looking at Shannann's fb page and in the days before the murder she spent 2 hours looking up wedding dresses on the internet. Those are the facts.

Those are NOT the facts; there's so much info on this case it's easy to look up. She admitted to knowing he was married but believed him that the marriage was ending because his wife and kids were gone for almost two months (not unreasonable to think if he was spending so much time with her and spending nights etc).

She's been investigated throughly & no evidence of her involvement in the murder exists. People hate her because she was the "other woman". But CW killed his family

He was very much married and she knew that. She wasn't involved in directly murdering them but she does bear responsibility in what happened. Why she is so hated.

She’s hated by white-bread dumpy psychos like you. Normal people with a scrap of self-esteem truly don’t care and they don’t um “research” this kind of shit while drooling in front of YouTube videos with a 24oz tumbler of coffee lite Coffeemate (got to save the WW points).

I wonder if he’s going to implicate the mistress, everyone thinks she had something to do with it.

totally.

she is a skank that is probably getting it, again, by a different DH.

Didn’t she work for an accounting firm in Denver? CW met the skank when he was trying to get their finances in order.

She is / was a CPA, right?

+1

Exactly. Contextualization is not justification.

The details of their life are so fascinating to me. Makes me wonder how many other seemingly upper middle class/solid middle class are in that much debt. The MLM people do such a good job of faking everything, not just on social media but for real life friends and family too.

Calm down and take your meds. She was an important catalyst in this saga, and unfortunate ending. Watts admitted she was the big reason he annihilated his family.

Not just the MLM people, it's across the board. Maybe social media and the internet made it easier to identify them.

Dr Grande weighs in. Nicole lied so much, she was Googling wedding dresses days before the murders. And searched "marrying your mistress".

Most people are pretty sympathetic with her, yes putting her family in the spotlight constantly was uncalled for. The Gerardot story most were sympathic toward the wife.
and felt she was the true victim. Nicole was hoping to have sympathy like Amber Frey who really didn't know Scott was married. Whereby Nicole was even trying to find an apartment for Chris, because she wanted to get him away from his family asap. In her interview it was obvious she had no sympathy for Shanann and the kids.

No, I think after a few years locked up, the schmuck is just tiring of prison life and is craving his freedom again.

He likely is thinking that there are some legal loopholes that he can weasel his way into.
Ha!!!!!
I have heard him speaking to a few lawyers online >>> who are telling him so much b.s.
He actually is buying what they are selling.

He did the most evil thing any person could ever do.
He murdered his beautiful wife, their adorable little girls alongside his unborn baby son.
He snuffed the life out of those he was entrusted with to protect, love and advocate for.
A cardinal sin.

He had the option of divorcing his wife.....
Instead he chose annihilation as an option so he wouldn’t have to pay out spousal + child abuse.
And what blows my mind is how he actually thought that he would get away with everything‼️
