Janney principal email about yesterday’s events

They used the protected and peaceful protest activity by the masses outside the capital to further their own unlawful and very sick goals. Exactly as what happened during the 2020 protests with looters.

Here is the difference. BLM riots weren’t driven by a desire to overthrow the government - which is a crime even if the Capitol police made it look otherwise. These people overtook the Capitol while in session to try and stop the new government from being certified. That’s sedition and treason. Or, am I supposed to it was just a coincidence that this it happened right as lawmakers were meeting?

Not to mention they were incited and egged on the the President of the United States. Any attempt to distance these insurgents from the commander in chief and his GOP followers is as dishonest as Trump and his cult himself.

Amazing letter - straight to the point, calling things exactly what they are. Well done!

It was an attempted Coup! Our Capitol was breached, our President essentially endorsed the activity, etc. It will go down in History as one of the most important days in United States History. Your child just experienced one of those moments in history where people will ask throughout their lifetime "Where were you during the attempted Trump Coup (or whatever it ends up being known as)?" In future years this will be as important to study as December 7th, 9/11, etc.

Your 4 year old needs to know about this. (Of course, age appropriate conversations... but not ZERO conversations)

What is your issue with the email specifically? Fwiw, we are Janney parents and are supportive of the way the school is handling it and how it was discussed in classes today.

+1

Janney parent here. What is the actual criticism of the email? I am grateful that our school faces these events head on and makes sure our kids know they can talk about it and ask questions.

It is not a topic that needed be discussed, particularly in this way, with my FOUR year old pre-K child.

You were not required to have your PKer at Jamboree today. Please remember that the world doesn’t revolve around your child - and there are older kids in the school who are absolutely at the age to discuss today’s events

This. OP, did you not talk to your child about the news at all???

Nah I saw one POC shouting inside the capitol. lol. Yeah this email is fantastic IMHO. Let's cut right to the chase here.

considering our charter school isn't mentioning it at all so far, I'm impressed.

I feel like some of the race discussion in my DS’s 3rd grade class is ham handed and may actually alienate black kids on the one hand, and fail to impart knowledge and empathy in the white kids on the other hand. It can seem canned and more about the teacher feeling she needs to check a box and prove herself woke. But I understand and appreciate where it’s coming from.

I would tell a 4 year old: bad guys tried to get into the Capitol and stop the election, but the good guys won. Yay!

This. It was a historical moment. You are wrong on any criticism of the school's reaction and your child is lucky she will learn about social issues and this country's true history somewhere.

Agree. Email seems fine (the photos show the racial composition of the attackers). Principal is giving a heads up.

+1. Is that what you were upset about, OP?

Historic, not historical.

Carry on.

this entire board would fall apart if people just talked to each other. talk to your school leaders, talk to your kids teachers, talk to each other.

It’s a phenomenal email. Anyone who has a problem with it is well...a problem themselves. And that’s my nice way of putting it.
