They are telling you what they plan to discuss and how they plan to discuss it. You can choose not to have your kid participate. What's shocking about this? That they aren't sugarcoating what happened? Nothing they said isn't being said in major newspapers and media outlets and on the floor of Congress and by many, many witnesses to the events.

The people who stormed the capital were an isolated group of domestic terrorists, anarchists, and white supremacists. They used the protected and peaceful protest activity by the masses outside the capital to further their own unlawful and very sick goals. Exactly as what happened during the 2020 protests with looters.

The only bad thing is that "teachers may need to step away" from teaching today. WTF? unless those teachers were at the capitol bldg, they have no excuse to not be teaching today.

How about the setting police stations on fire- like up in flames, fire- and ruining dozens of businesses by fires, vandalism, and theft?

Yes, breaking windows and looting a Target is exactly the same as storming the Capitol while Congress is in session and attempting to overthrow the results of a democratic election.

Janney parent here. What is the actual criticism of the email? I am grateful that our school faces these events head on and makes sure our kids know they can talk about it and ask questions.

Sorry were those actions in service of disrupting the certification of the presidential election and the peaceful transfer of power?

It is not a topic that needed be discussed, particularly in this way, with my FOUR year old pre-K child.

Remember that a lot of students and staff at Janney have parents/spouses/ etc who were at the Capitol yesterday. She isn't singling anyone out - but if it were my husband under lockdown with no way to communicate with him for several hours - I might need a day to decompress too. I read that as a way to allow those people directly affected to take the day or to step away if the conversation is too raw.
