How do people eat 1200 calories?

My weight had gotten up to 125 and I wanted to be back at 115, which I think is absolutely perfect for my height & frame.

FWIW, I lost the weight, and I’ve kept it off since April after returning to a normal amount of calories (~2,000/day).

Basically, I ate one meal a day, and I counted calories. I ate whatever I wanted, though. It was tough at first, but I soon became used to it. I didn’t feel hungry.

115 at 5'3 in your 50s sounds scary. I'm 5'4 at 137 and am pretty small. I'm 51. I was 115 when I was 25. I'd look like a refugee if I even weighed 120. My goal is 130 b/c I still want to look like a grown ass woman.

Nope. You are the sounds scary and delusional one.

Jesus. 1) don’t call any other body scary and 2) everybody’s body is different.

It’s mental illness to want to be healthy?

Any dietician/nutritionist worth their salt will tell you that a full grown adult eating 1200 calories a day is not healthy.

This may be true for some people but 1200 for many women is a reasonable target when trying to lose weight.

Don't confuse wanting to be skinny with wanting to be healthy. 1200 calories has absolutely nothing to do with health.

Neither does shaming others for their calorie intake.

I did it but I’m old and I was hungry a lot. Lost 14 lbs. very hard when older.

I actively try to get to 1200 calories a day and unless I go for junk food, it it is actually hard to do. No problem during cookie season though!

I'm 5' tall and I can't sustain 1200 calories for long. Sure, I lose weight but it's not worth it to me. I can do 1350 and still lose weight on that just fine - but a little slower.

I'm doing this now (5'4"/135, trying to get back down to my pre-Covid weight of 125). I'm generally a big eater but am doing okay on 1200 - I haven't really felt hungry or deprived. This has been the past two days of eating for me.

Yesterday: 6 ounces greek yogurt with 3 ounces raspberries for breakfast. 1 whole wheat tortilla filled with 2 tablespoons hummus and chopped cucumber/cherry tomato dressed in lemon and salt, plus one apple, for lunch. 4 ounces seared tuna steak with a huge amount of stir fried veggies (zucchini, broccoli, mushrooms, and peppers - cooked in a wok over high heat with a drizzle of olive oil and some seasoning) for dinner.

Day before yesterday: Apple for breakfast. 6 ounces greek yogurt with 3 ounces blueberries for lunch (wasn't that hungry). A bowl for dinner containing 1 cup cooked quinoa, 1/2 cup roasted chickpeas (chickpeas, garlic salt, olive oil spray), a lot of roasted cauliflower and carrots (za'taar, salt, olive oil spray), 1 lamb sausage (3 ounces) cut into coins, and a drizzle of olive oil.

I have also been consciously drinking water before every meal and throughout the day and drink black coffee in the morning. I make green tea or a cup of coffee if I want a snack, and if I'm still hungry afterward (not usually), I'll eat fruit or 15 grams of almonds. Soup also helps. I sometimes supplement a meal with a light soup (chicken broth, soy sauce, and shiitake mushrooms), which adds some bulk and keeps me full.

Soup is your friend, OP. It’s filling, healthy, and cheap. During the winter we eat soup everyday; mostly vegetarian.

No idea. I eat like 1200 calories of Hershey kisses while on work calls.

Jesus. 1) don’t call any other body scary and 2) everybody’s body is different.

1) Jesus was skinny
2) Gluttony is a sin. You are a few lbs short of overweight. Of course, you think you are not, since the whole country is obese.

This is ridiculous. Recommend lifting weights and eating to fuel your body, lots of protein and veg and yes even some carbs. If I eat under 2000 calories now I lose weight quickly and am rarely hungry. I’m only 130lbs. Strength training is great.
