Tax dollars do stay in McLean. Sheesh.

Umm, no, they don’t. The high property taxes that I pay here in McLean get sent all over the county and are subsidizing other locales.

Doesn't every homeowner pay the same rate?

Yes. Now look at the median assessed values in different areas and you'll know who is writing the larger checks.

But this isn't being driven by people complaining against the idea of revenue-sharing. It's being driven by people fed up with the poor level of services and the failure of county bodies like FCPS to discharge basic responsibilities over extended periods.

Right. That's why McLean HS is one of the best high schools in the state. Because of poor services and lack of county services.

lol

Same rate, but the same house on the same price of property isn’t worth the same in Herndon as it is in McLean.

Right. So the taxes paid are only "high" in relation to others because of the value of the home. The rate is the same so it's not a matter of "high property taxes in McLean".

Oh, here we go. You're like the people who pretend that buyers pay more attention to the price of a house per square foot than the total purchase price. Good luck if you think that argument will dissuade anyone who favors a separation from pursuing it further.

No, it’s a top school in spite of the ineptitude of the school board and bloated County government. It’s a success because of the demographics, level of education, and wealth of the local population.

More like "in spite of" than "because of," but thanks for playing.

Exactly. The same factors that are leading people who live there now to say "enough is enough."

Why is everyone saying they move move to McLean when they could actually move to FCCPS today and get this? If you think because McLean is cheaper, it won't be once that actually happens...

Join the MCA or start watching their meetings and find out who is taking the lead.

I was never interested in joining previously. I would love to join and help.

This would be amazing if McLean could be it’s own city and school district. Imagine all the possibilities.

I don't quite understand what you're implying. Some people consider both McLean and FCC and do decide to move to FCC because they value more local control. But FCC is a good bit smaller than McLean, the housing stock is not as varied, and the smaller schools may not offer as many electives as the FCPS schools.

I think the town of Vienna should do this too. We already pay so much in town taxes.

FCC has about 15,000 residents; a McLean City could be closer to 45,000 to 60,000 depending on whether Great Falls opted in. Taxes should not be as high as in FCC due to economies of scale.

Because FCCPS schools aren't comparable to McLean HS.

Obviously.

Let's not go there.

This is how local government is structured in every other state in which I’ve ever lived. It’s at the city or town level, not the county level. You pay your property taxes to the town and that money stays in your town to support the local services - police and fire, schools, etc. It does not support the big, bloated, inefficient bureaucracy that is Fairfax County.

Bloated and inefficient? Do you have a complaint about police or fire?

It's just schools. And the schools are good, so you want to make good better by ... something. Staying open when there's snow on the ground in Chantilly?
