Schools are not "mass gatherings" anymore. Kids are distanced, wearing masks. There has also been an increase in the general population cases so of course kids are included in that. |
Where are you getting your timeline for the lag between data read outs this year and approval? The FDA is doing an accelerated rolling review of these studies. Standard timelines don't apply. All of the info in white boxes in that table is nothing but conjecture. #fakenews (And given that fake news, you should also verify the colored boxes) |

The vaccine won’t be for children. They aren’t testing it in children and children won’t receive it.
Does anyone know when children will start getting vaccine? How soon after they roll out the vaccine for adults? If all the adults are vaccinated, will they reopen schools? Or do we have to wait until everyone, including children, can be vaccinated first? If the kids also need to be vaccinated first, then I agree it definitely won’t be reopening in 2021. |

I was just going to say these vaccines aren't even for children. There are no pediatric trials going on. Children will be the last to get a covid vaccine.
So, will teachers accept going in person if they themselves are vaccinated and the children aren't? We could easily be looking even further out if not, or a bunch of people who will need to make some concessions to get back into the classroom. |
My point was soap and water is fine for hand washing but not sufficient for a variety of other surfaces such as computer, tablets, projectors etc. |
Duh. A vaccine will improve metrics which will allow schools to open. |

I have no idea why people are pretending in-person, five-day-per-week schooling will happen in the big public school systems prior to 2022. You can read the union positions on return to work; they are published. Those standards will not be met before 2022 even WITH an effective, fully distributed vaccine for adults only, and assuming there will be a safe, effective, and fully distributed vaccine is a large assumption. Maybe there will be an effective clinical cure, but I am skeptical.
Personally I think people are engaging in this mass delusion to avoid the hard consequences of what it means to not have regular school until 2022 earliest. |
Nope. There are schools everywhere that are open. You're insane if you think schools are going to be closed for TWO YEARS. You better get used to the idea of schools opening, not the other way around. |

I live in another state. Our private school with about 500 kids PK-8 started in person with the option for DL in August. Approx. 20% of families, including us, chose DL. I really thought opening the school was a mistake and expected the school to be closed within a month. That didn’t happen. Earlier this month, we gave up on DL and sent our kids back after seeing (1) no outbreaks at school and (2) how much of a struggle DL was both from an educational and social standpoint. One of our kids was really getting depressed (and he’s the one who usually claims to hate school!). Going back has been life-changing for our whole family. DH and I can now get our own work done without interruptions and, most importantly, our kids are so happy. Gone are the days when we had to drag them out of bed to get them dressed for school. They have never been so excited about going. I’m sure it won’t last. However, I cannot imagine keeping them home until fall 2022.
I’m not a Trump who believes Covid is no big deal. But I’m beginning to believe the side effects of being on indefinite lockdown may outweigh the effects of Covid for much of the population, especially school-ages kids. I wouldn’t have said this back in July. |
| 943 here. I'm also concerned about these reports of people contracting covid more than once in such a short period of time since this began. I fail then to see how any vaccine could be effective unless there's multiple boosters given along the way. Many people seem to be thinking it's just one shot with instant immunity but even for example the flu shot requires two doses a month apart then annually. So, how often and at what time intervals would these boosters need to be given? This would in effect double or triple the amount of doses needed, depending on how many boosters are needed and prolong the amount of time for immunity to be achieved. And that's all assuming people are compliant. Many have said they will not get a rushed vaccine and even less will once they learn there's multiple trips to the shot clinic involved. So anyway for these reasons along with the fact theres not even going to be a pediatric vaccine for a long time, I think waiting for a vaccine to reopen schools full time is a red herring/fools errand and maybe the bar should be reset to a widely available, effective treatment instead. |
Pfizer vaccine is not safe will not be safe and anyone who thinks a vaccine coming from Trump supporters is a good idea more power to you. The rest of us will wait til people with better Science show up. |

Several things:
1) unions will fight tooth and nail for WFH as long as possible -> doesn’t matter what does on with vaccine and other measures; 2) there is very weak discourse re: risks of closing schools outweighing the benefits. All the equity rage has shifted into blm and such -> everyone pretending closing schools is no big deal for the kids at risk. And of course no one gives 2 flying figs about regular kids; 3) there is no organized counter pressure on unions and officials to reopen; everyone is just suffering in an isolated silence, and those advocating for reopening are labeled trumpsters. The second part may or may not change later in the year. All of the above points to schools being closed for 2021/22
And yes I agree many people are deluding themselves because not everyone can make exit plans for one reason or another. |
| Is that for the adult vaccine? Or one that's safe for children? |
The problem is that you will still be labeled all sorts of labels. The unions are using the widespread paranoia and the rage of SJ people channeled away to just advocate for wfh forever. It is sad to see. |
