How about ranking by distance from the Capitol? Here's my guess but my distances may be off a little:
Tier 1: Gonzaga, St Anselms Tier 2: Maret, NCS, STA, Sidwell Tier 3: Episcopal, Potomac, Madeira, GP |

This whole tread is a joke. I have had three kids at 6 schools through their "academic careers" and I am pretty sure I can give you a pretty solid ranking of them in terms of a balanced, solid academic+athletic standpoint. Here is what I think.
Tier 1: STA, NCS, Sidwell, Maret, Landon, Holton Tier 2: Potomac, GDS, Georgetown Prep, Episcopal, Georgetown Visitation, etc. Tier 3: Flint Hill, Bullis, Gonzaga, SSSA, Holy Child, Stone Ridge |

Wow, I am actually in agreement with 14:51. I think that is a pretty fair assessment.

Landon is not a tier 1 school, especially after the last couple of years. Even if its a solid academic institution, the character of the parents and kids pretty much sink the school to Tier 3 for a while. Is their a tier IV.
If you rank the schools academically. Holton, NCS, GDS, Sidwell and STA are the top the schools in the area. |

I disagree. I am not a Landon parent but the recent incidents don't sink it at all. Sure, their reputation has taken a hit to an extent, but it still is a solid academic institution and sport's powerhouse. I've seen many Landon kids recently around downtown Bethesda and sporting events and they have been on tip top behavior from what i've seen. In my views, I will agree with 14:51. |

| How can you judge the character of a kid based on their schools' sports record and walking by them in Bethesda? I could not think of a more superficial way of assessing. NOthing against Landon, but you're not really helping |

I wasn't judging their character by walking by them or by their school record. What I meant to say, is that their Academic performance and their athletic standings speak for itself. From what I have heard, they already have a few kids going to UPenn, Yale, UVA, Dartmouth, Princeton, Duke, Davidson, UNC, etc for academics and athletics. They are competitive in about every sport, #2 in basketball, #1 in Hockey, #2 in Football, and their other teams have been solid as well. All of this does not make a Tier 2 school, those are statistics of a TIER ONE school. |

| Thanks PP for your kind words about Landon. In my opinion, yes Landon is a heck of a school and should be put into the Tier 1 category. I have had one son who graduated who went on to an Ivy League school three years ago. The school really did provide the tools for success for my eldest son. Since, there have been many unfortunate incidents at Landon and related to Landon alumni, and as a community, we really regret those all. I currently have my younger DS who is in the Upper School and he loves it. As a family, to repeat the second sentence, we believe Landon is the best school in this area. I am not saying that Landon is the best school for every DS in this area. All of these tiers and rankings, in my view, misrepresent schools. The BEST school is the school which fits your DS or DD the best and helps he/or she succeed to their fullest potential. |

WOW you know an awful lot about the school, its sports records and which colleges its almumni attend for someone who doesn't have a kid there. |
