"Tier" High Schools

Alphabetical tiering makes as much sense as any other method.

Tier I schools: Georgetown Day, Maret, St. Andrews, St Albans, and Bullis

Tier II schools: St Stephens/St. Agnes, Sidwell Friends, Georgetown Prep, and Landon

Tier III schools: Flint Hill, Potomac and Gonzaga

Note some people put Georgetown Prep into the Tier I, it depends on how you are looking at things.

This one was alphabetized too. I just did it in reverse, and by last letter instead of first, to make it less obvious!

clever pp. that was subtle.

Surely explains why every DCUMMIE has a different Big 3 list and order.

This is, of course, why this exercise is a waste of time. No agreement. In terms of academics

I: Sidwell, Potomac, and STA

II: GDS, Maret, Bullis, Gonzaga, Landon

III: St Andrews, St Stephens, GP, Flint Hill

hmmm - I wonder why presidents would choose a "tier 2" school for their kids?????

If there are other schools you would like to categorize, please do so!!!. Thanks a bunch. By doing this, you are helping my son and me choose his school, and choose the school of the many who will read this. Thank you again!

I am never disappointed when I visit this forum. The intelligence level of the posters is - as always - impressive.

I suppose I keep thinking that if I visit this private/independent schools forum more often, perhaps - by osmosis - I, too, will become one of the Intelligentsia.

Because they don't appreciate the importance of the alphabet??

I generally don't agree with these rankings, but the one above is pretty close to correct. Argument could be made that GDS and Maret belong in Tier 1 too.

I think the OP is the "story lady" from the Georgetown Prep thread. New to town and nuts.

I wondered about that too. After compiling my highly scientific and complete objective ranking of the schools according to my established critera, I emailed the president and asked him if he was aware I considered it a tier 2 school. He replied he was only concerned about elementary and middle school as he didn't expect to still be in town by the time the girls were in high school!
