Feedback on MadLax

It might have more to do with BLC and less with ML. BLC provided little or any support or guidance to teams post pandemic. Little communication, no coordination, no summer get togethers, only tournaments in which each team decided what to do and how they would get together. It was a mess brought on by their unwieldy parent structure. ML had formal practices during the shutdowns and promised games and tournaments to all who switched. NL started practices as soon as was allowed and coordinated a late summer tournament schedule for all teams.

Now that is funny. You do know that DCE does not exist for sixth grade, right? And that the DCE feeder program, BLC, is where everybody left from to join MadLax?

By the way does anybody know why all these kids left BLC to join a MadLax age group that they had to know was already close to capacity? BLC has a good reputation generally, and in the last HoCo season the 2027 team did just fine in the Elite division.

The 2027 BLC Blue team went 3-4 in the elite division and didn't make the playoffs.

Exactly, they did just fine. All games were close. Chasing wins is not a reason to change programs at any age, especially sixth grade.

So they jumped from one 3-4 team to another 3-4 team. Except ML has a crazy owner, 35 kids on 2027, and now they have to drive to Mclean for practice.

Yes, the 2027's are going to be interesting to watch this fall. I believe that the new coach from BLC is an assistant, not replacing the incumbent head coach. But in any event, with the influx of BLC players, the prior poster's analysis will remain accurate, probably even more so - the top 16 players on the Capital roster ....

The BLC dad will be the de facto head coach. He made a deal with Cabell to bring those players. They will all get more playing time than the pre-existing players regardless of skill.

Nice theory, but the rosters do not indicate any special treatment for the BLC players. I counted 17 new players, and I know at least two who came from places other than BLC. Four of the 15 or so BLC guys are listed on Capital only; six are Warriors (rostered on both teams); and five are DMV only. Having watched most of the practices, it is fair to say that 4 of the new BLC players deserve to be on Capital, and I assume those are the four taken. So it does not appear that the BLC coach had unfair influence on the first round of cuts. They will probably cut the 25 down to 20 before the first tournament, so there will be some disappointed returning players, but it is hard to blame that too much on the BLC influx, because there are only four of those players on Capital.

But in any event, 15 players @ 5,000/year = 75,000, plus the helmets, uniforms, clinics, etc. I sure hope that Cabell is taking this BLC guy out to some nice dinners, Caps games, or something.

What is a Madlax Warrior? Just kids that still think they will make Capital but probably will not? Are they their own team?
Anonymous
No, they are bubble players who are rostered on both Capital and DMV, who theoretically play for both teams, and (possibly) offend Native Americans.

Wait, 15 players left BLC to join ML because 3 BLC joined NL? BLC must be in terrible shape. Did this happen at the other ages? If not, then we'll have to let the smoke clear at this age group and see which players end up in HoCo in the spring. That's a long way out but I still think they will enter a lot of tournaments this fall and you'll see a lot of cross-rosters.

Plus the price of the hospital damages you will need after the owner of MadLax kicks and assaults your son.

Assuming the $ is true, I have no reason to doubt you, what amount of that $75k is cost and what is profit? $5k a year per player, you get some portion of the coach/es. Is equipment or uniforms included? Tournaments? I have no clue.

I assume all practice related costs (permits, etc) are in the $5k.

10% of that new $75k is obviously $7,500. Which if that's PROFIT then that's not too shabby (assuming he pays himself out of salary, especially).

Actually the 60,000 from the 15 new BLC players is mostly, if not entirely, profit. The costs are mostly fixed (coaches salaries, field usage, tournament entry) so adding more players to an age group goes straight to the bottom line. And it’s even better, because without these 15 players there were only 30 in the age group, which was enough for just one team plus 7-8 boys left over. Those 7-8 extra boys are few for a DMV team, but too many (32,000) to turn away. So the solution is to combine the DMV players from two age groups into one combined team. But the problem with that is that it is hard to slot a combined team into tournaments. If they play up like they are supposed to, they will get smoked, even in B divisions. But if they play down they are cheating, and have been caught in the past. So landing these 15 new players to fund two complete teams in the age group not only brings their own revenue, it also helps to retain the 8-9 incumbent DMV players. Their arrival is exciting for MadLax.

Great explanation. 25-26 DMV has has similar tourney challenges but looks like there’s enough 26s to field their own DMV team this fall, not sure who the coach will be.

Anonymous wrote:The reason why Madlax is getting hate is because their owner is just there to take money. 35+ player Rosters. They had 10+ Defenders on the DC Dogs last year (only 5-6 play).

The other, and more important reason is that there owner bullies and assaults kids. He assaulted a kid at SJC, was caught with hookers at McLean. He writes nasty email to kids when they leave his team or miss practice. He once emailed the college of a committed player telling them to unenroll him because he left Madlax. Just read the article below.
