Mayor Bowser and renaming or removing monuments

Anonymous
They’ve banned kids from going to school and this is what our elected leaders are focused on?

Hey let’s all waste our time dunking on people who died 300 years ago!

It’s definitely gotten out- a relative sent me a link to it from Fox News. I don’t think proposals like this do the Democrats any favors for November.

I’m really not worried about what someone’s RWNJ uncle from Tennessee thinks about DC. This is a local issue. It’s time to rename these monuments after people who DIDN’T own other human beings.

Obviously you’re not and you’re sure of yourself, but you should be. Guessing you don’t know enough people in battleground states to know how it energizes the other side. What’s the point of including the federal stuff they don’t control except to make Fox News headlines? Can’t they just wait til after the election?

Why do people in TN care about a working group set up in by some other city mayor? Don't they get that DC doesn't have jurisdiction over federal monuments?

Do you live in DC?

No, do you?

DC doesn't either.

Do you think that in Italy, the Mayor of Rome stands up committees which ponder the tearing down the coliseum? Or in England a National Trust committee ponders tearing down Stonehenge based on Druid sacrifices.

One of the reasons the US is always thought of as immature is our ability to overreact based on naivete. The woke masses are writing checks which our collective Nation is having stuffed down by uneducated politicians. This DCFACES report is a high school debate project. That is it.

Why do you all care if we rename our kids school or provide context for why it's named after someone who did some pretty evil stuff. MYOB

DC doesn't have jurisdiction over the national monuments so calm down.

You do realize that many of the "white men on horses" in the District of Columbia are Union generals who fought to end slavery? Sheridan, Farragut, Sherman, Logan, McClellan, Meade, Grant, Scott - to say that they did not made any obvious positive societal contribution is deeply ignorant.

None of those people are on the list. Did you even look?

I do hope the authors documented their feelings sufficiently and properly cited Wikipedia in their research.

Then, why the hell did this working group make any recommendations about federal monuments and buildings?

I hope all the backwards ass places around the country lose representation for the dumb stuff they say and do too. Fair is fair?

Yes! I agree with the PP in hoping the rest of the world will become woke too!

All the castles in Europe should be removed, you know that pesky feudalism. I mean Henry VIII was great at keeping a peasant down and simply removing his wives from existence.

The Great Pyramids need to good. We all know who build those, ahem.

Great Wall of China, 400,000 dead in its construction. Gotta go.

Certainly Russia has a lot of work to do with Stalin and Marx glorifications.

And you know that Statue of Freedom that sits atop the Capitol? A nice Jefferson Davis project.

Literally everything had got to go. Recontextualization Now!

You know what is funny? That the stupid fountain in Chevy Chase Circle is on the list. Um... did you know it was a memorial? Have you ever played Frogger to get to the fountain to see the name? I am sure many will enjoy the beauty of sitting in the midst of a death defying traffic circle to read the contextualized plaque.
