Should kids wear masks in stores?

Anonymous
yes. My 3 year old loves wearing a mask--thinks it makes her just like the grown ups. If kids have an issue with them it's most likely because the adults in their lives are resistant to mask wearing.

My three year old yes. My 20 month old does not and I don't see him keeping one on in 4 months but we will definitely try.

I haven't taken my kids inside anywhere since the beginning of March and I have only been inside stores maybe half a dozen times since then and I have seen multiple kids in stores without masks, and they were all at least over the age of six. Why? Why would anyone be so cavalier about their kids?

The rest of the world mandated one family to do the families shopping. The entire family was not dragged around into stores.

The ignorance is astounding.

Not every family has two adults. When my kids were very young, my husband was active duty military and often deployed. If something like this had happened during that time, I would have no choice but to "drag my kids" into stores with me.

Sure, it’s possible that you couldn’t get a time slot for grocery or pharmacy deliveries, but you can never convince me that you NEED to take your child to Barnes and Noble. It’s a want. Not a need. So yes, it’s a choice to take a kid to a bookstore, regardless of the number of adults in your home.

Kids don’t need to be in stores right now. You should have left him at home.

I think it's absolutely fine to take well behaved kids in stores with masks.

There were 2 families in the kids section -- none of their 5 kids were wearing masks. All were older than 4. (It didn't help that one of the dads had a mask over his face but not his nose).
I was pissed. Should I have been?

Why did you take your son to Barnes and Noble? You can't expect that everyone else will be wearing a mask, so to keep your kids safe you should have kept him at home. I honestly find it funny that you're getting pissed at the people who were there without masks. At least they've just decided to embrace their stupidity. You seem to expect others to make choices so your stupidity can live unfettered.

They should! My 3 year old has trouble wearing his mask over his face but we keep trying and I don’t take him to the stores because of that.

There is no need for any of you to bring your kids to the bookstore.

If you can’t afford books; library is open and has curbside pickup.

If you want to peruse books, Amazon has them all with pageview sampling.

Amazon doesn't always have previews, and for short children's books, the previews are often pretty useless. Sometimes, google books has a better preview, although they don't have all books available for preview either. Usually, between the two, I can find something helpful, although being flexible helps. Sometimes, if you can't access the specific book you're looking for, you might be able to look at another book in a series.

This thread is interesting. Another recent post the OP asked if others take their kids grocery shopping and she got an overwhelming no way/why would you do that??? But people think Barnes and Noble is totally cool?

I think both are fine but still interesting to see the contrast.

Yes. Kids should wear masks or not come with. They are little disease vectors.

I don’t bring my kids to stores.

Of course they should. If your kids won't, or can't , wear a mask then keep them at home!

Why don't YOU stay home? Talk about selfish.

I can’t tell you the number of adults I see wearing masks that don’t cover their noses. Every day.

It’s laughable that people think kids will do it properly at school.

Well, you would have had a choice not to "drag" your kids into a totally nonessential bookstore to browse during a pandemic...
