Given the number of you cheering for her to die, I don’t think anyone can blame her for waiting until the news was clearer.

I agree she wanted clarity one way or the other before communicating anything.

I think she will do her very best to stay on the court until February.

Really she just needs to stay on until the election. There would be a revolt in response to any GOP effort to fill her seat once Biden wins. (even before then, of course, because of Merrick Garland, but we wouldn't want to chance that).

+1. This our country does not need a fight over a Supreme Court seat right now. I don't care where you fall on the political spectrum, it's pretty clear our country cannot handle RGB dying in the next few months.

I think she will remain on the court long past November, so we won’t have to see.

But Moscow Mitch said you can't fill a vacancy in an election year! Surely that wasn't just hypocritical, partisan BS.

I'm sure someone will chime in to explain that he meant his rule to apply only when the Senate is something something something or it's all Harry Reid's fault, to which I say, this is why the GOP is going to lose big in the fall. And never have federal national power again in its current form

No, he was simply following the Biden Rule.

There is no Biden rule BECAUSE HE NEVER ACTUALLY DID THIS.

Did you read the article and actually listen to his speech? Or, (more likely) you simply put your fingers in your ears.

Show me where Biden held up a SCOTUS nominee and didn't even give him a hearing. That's right he never did, so we will never know if he would actually do this.

But we know Moscow Mitch would.

Enjoy the blue wave.

Why don't you read this article: https://www.chicagotribune.com/columns/eric-zorn/ct-b-b-but-what-about-the-biden-rule-20170407-story.html

Biden's speech was a hypothetical and was given in the summer, not February (when Scalia died)

it was also a really dumb speech, and had never been voted on or formally made a senate rule

and then the republicans used a hypothetical speech as their ONLY justification for holding a supreme court seat hostage

and then they would push through a nomination the day before an inauguration if they have a chance

Why? Why should I bother?

Mitch McConnell used the Biden rule to keep Obama from nominating a SC Justice.
But Mitch McConnel also says that the Biden Rule isn't a rule and if RGB dies this year, he will push Trump SC nominations through confirmation.

The Biden rules is "Heads I win, tails you lose" for Republicans. Mitch McConnell invoked the "Biden rule" by appealing the decency of Democrats. The problem is, Republicans don't have the same decency.

What you are forgetting is that Obama was done. He couldn’t be president again. That was impetus. Trump is only on his first term and could possibly be re-elected.
The real fault lies with RBG. She should have retired in the middle of Obama’s second term.

So what? Either in an election year, we wait on SC replacements or not.

No, pancreatic cancer that traveled to the liver. Relapse is treated differently than a first-time cancer occurrence.
