Preschool opening on June 1 - would you send your child?

This would be daycare. Preschools have all just closed for the summer.

I’ve been wondering myself as well. I assume the ones open don’t have many students attending but maybe not. I think there can be lessons learned from the ones that have been opened.

In the past few weeks there have been outbreaks in childcare centers in Colorado, Iowa, Texas, Washington, Toronto and Montreal. I’m sure there are others, but that’s what a quick google search turned up. It’s very high-risk, especially for teachers and parents.

In Maryland 50 of 2200 centers open for essential workers had to close temporarily because of one or more cases. That means the majority have had no issues since March and the other were able to reopen in a few days. They follow CDC guidelines. I’m not sure what “outbreaks” are but most likely child care centers can operate safely. If the criteria is zero kids ever get sick then they can never reopen. We will send our kids when they reopen.

Shut up fear monger. You have been all over this site posting this crap about school son Colorado and the like. Let’s say four preschools in the US had it. That means that 10000s have not. Go back to your fearful existence.

The immediate op above clearly has a lot of anxiety about this. Whoever you are, your guilt about having to use childcare right now is apparent and not necessary. If you have to use childcare, do so proudly and without fear. Outbreaks are happening, no matter who posts about it and no matter whether you read it here or on the news. All you can do is take precautions and hope for the best.

If attempting to insult me for having a life instead of of living to serve my husband makes you feel better about yourself, by all means....

How dare you? I'm serious. You came on here asking for advice. If it isn't daycare, YOU know that and so move on to the posters who are answering your question. Not you. You have to not only get on here to clap back, you throw out an insult that isn't even appropriate. How do you know the PP is a SAHM? Do you know how many of us are working from home these days? "...living to serve my husband.." WTH?

OP here checking back on my thread - THAT was not me.

My kid's preschool is opening June 1. We are not sending him. We're paying 30% requested to continue paying teachers salary and hold spot for fall.

OP again - I replied earlier that we decided to wait another month.

And for the PPs above - this IS a preschool.

Ours states that 95% of our tuition goes toward salaries. I’m not buying it.

Our preschool is opening in June too - and we are unsure about sending. He really wants to be back at school and they are taking good precautions but I know there is still some risk.

How old is your son? And how big is the group size? I think those would be the two factors. I think a 4s who is in a little group would benefit from being back and while 4 year olds aren't clean at all, they aren't in the putting everything in their mouth stage. I also think you can gage whether the other parents are the careful type and what they do.
