About risk: what has been the experience of daycares still operating? Have there been outbreaks? Few? Many? I haven’t seen any news reports of problems at daycares, which makes me think they’re rare or nonexistent. Seems to me a daycare outbreak would be yuge news.
I’ve been wondering myself as well. I assume the ones open don’t have many students attending but maybe not. I think there can be lessons learned from the ones that have been opened.
In the past few weeks there have been outbreaks in childcare centers in Colorado, Iowa, Texas, Washington, Toronto and Montreal. I’m sure there are others, but that’s what a quick google search turned up. It’s very high-risk, especially for teachers and parents.
In Maryland 50 of 2200 centers open for essential workers had to close temporarily because of one or more cases. That means the majority have had no issues since March and the other were able to reopen in a few days. They follow CDC guidelines. I’m not sure what “outbreaks” are but most likely child care centers can operate safely. If the criteria is zero kids ever get sick then they can never reopen. We will send our kids when they reopen.
