Because preschools aren't open right now. The rules and guidelines set forth by the CDC and states/localities are specifically for daycare/childcare situations. Preschools don't have nap time, lunch, etc. thus the regulations will be different when they open. |
At this point does it really matter if it’s June 1 vs. July 1 vs. August 1? I don’t see COVID numbers going down significantly, if anything they’ll start to creep up again as other things open. So yes, if our preschool/daycare/whatever you want to call it was opening June 1, we would probably send DD. But that’s not the case for us and there is no set date for reopening. |
We decided to send our child back |
I think the biggest issue here is not infection but rather the changes being made in response to Covid - 10 people in a classroom that normally would have 20. 1 teacher instead of 2 because of the smaller class size. Keeping the kids distanced and not allowing them to share toys. That's not age appropriate and I think it would be really hard for young children. |
Kids are pretty adaptable, but it’s also hard for me to see how they will really be able to distance the children. We are not currently sending our child but our daycare has been open for essential employees. We’ve seen photos and the kids are all playing normally and not wearing masks. |
I guess it depends on your situation, because the too much TV my 4yo is getting right now while I try to work doesn’t seem developmentally appropriate either! And for some parents, it is absolutely about the risk of infection. Maybe not even to the kids, but the chance of them bringing it home. |
In my opinion, tv isn’t as scary and confusing as the hospital style check in process and ppe heavy environment that our center is implementing. I o agree that their policies are necessary, I just don’t know if they are right for what I want my kids exposed to. |
That was supposed to say that i DO agree that they are necessary |
I have a 1 year old, and DH and I have both been able to work from home and hope to continue (neither of our offices have announced an open date at this point).
Our daycare facility didn’t have any parents who were essential workers, so hasn’t been open. They are hoping to open at a limited capacity as some parents return to work. They hope to open June 1 or shortly after. We aren’t sending DC back at this time. These were the biggest factors for us: - even with limited class sizes, how do you socially distance 1 year olds? - I personally don’t feel awesome about the prospect of sending my child back based on current infection data for our region - since neither of us have to return to the office yet, I don’t think we should be taking a spot from someone who really needs it |
I have 2 kids, both under 5, in Illinois -- we have decreasing cases now and robust testing but a high # of cases overall.
Our daycare/preschool/whatever will open on June 8th for kids of nonessential workers. Masks will not be required for the children in my city, just the teachers, and class sizes are capped at 15 for the older kids and 8-12 for the younger. We will be sending our kids, despite both my husband and me continuing to work remotely for the foreseeable future, as will 90% of the other parents at our facility, according to our director. I've been taking time off and using a lot of flex time to watch the kids and that time off -- and patience of my boss -- is dwindling rapidly. Many countries have not documented a single case of child to child or child to adult transmission. I'm comfortable sending my kids and daycare is a requirement for me to be able to work full time. |
I will be sending my 5 yo for the two months before k. Risk seems low. |
