If you have an elementary age child in FCPS

total of 4.5 hours a week - - one class hour daily m-th, with one 30 minute small group for reading/writing once a week.

Its working very well for us given age/attention span. We do the class, then the packet. No complaints for this age.

I'm super jealous that they're doing small group readzing/writing - my child really needs that, and is really resistant to doing it at home.

Yes, true about your tittle 1 schools. I work at one and they didn't do much until last week and laptops were just distributed. Attendance is very low for Live sessions as well.

It is also true: Title 1 parents won't complain/don't log in/don't have enough devices/have other things going on.

My kids attend "$$$" schools and have been doing Google Classroom, review work, educational videos, games and links.
At my kids school, Parents complain/log in/have plenty of devices (ipads, iphones, laptops, computers, etc.) and have nothing better to do than to be on top of their kids (those helicopter moms!)

Oh, and my son also got a laptop before "spring break".

Same county, two different worlds!

How did your kid get a laptop? I thought they were only given out to those in need?

4th - 2 hours Monday through Thursday plus a ton of assignments.

I just wanted to add: they also offer 2 hours of “office hours” in the pm that we have not used so far. The K teacher has asked if we would like to have small groups working during the office hours during the week, for 30 min each group.

Second: i have not checked my 4th grade class (teacher is teaching live during those hours) si I don’t know if all the students are participating, but I guess they are since it is an AAP class.

My k classroom has 19 students enrolled, bit I usually only see about 10 online during live time daily.

I don’t understand why you would call parents helicopter parents in the middle of a pandemic. I absolutely am on my kids to do their schoolwork and give them extra work so they are not on screens all day long. I’m normally very hands off. They do their homework on their own.

5th grade: 1 hour "live" instruction each day, FCPS, low FARMS school.

I have to say that I am really pleased now that all of this has truly started. My child had 45 minutes of math, an hour of language arts, and after a lunch break is in a small math group the teacher offered to students that wanted more instruction on some new material. She has also read a novel suggested by her teacher for 45 minutes (she is in between the previous class novel and the next one has not started yet) and has other thoughtful assignments to complete today. She is engaged and really liking the connection to her teachers and classmates.

Forgot to add plus 1.5 hours/day office hours if wanted/needed and an additional 1 hr week small group check in.
It is MUCH better now that it started for real this week.

5th grade

1 hour 15 min M-Th

It sucks, though.

Not Title 1, but not rich.

1st grade
M-Th 1 hour live instruction, 1 hour office hour, Google classroom online assignments in language arts, writing and math, daily checklists with activities to complete

3rd grade
M-Th 1 hour live instruction, 1 hour office hour, Google classroom online assignments in language arts and math.

Both have access to Google classrooms for specials where teachers are posting weekly assignments.
Very low FARM rate in school. 3rd grade was already 1:1 on laptop before COVID-19 breakout.

3rd grade -1 hour, two days a week. No virtual small groups, reading groups lunch bunch, specials, math groups or anything else. Teacher said an office hour meeting needed to be scheduled ahead of time. They just started today and are now done for the week. Also the teacher is planning on spending part of the hour each day on the positive feeling of the week and reading a chapter book out loud. It's third grade AAP-the kids can read to themselves.

My older child is in 4th at another FCPS elementary school and she is getting one hour, four days a week with her teacher PLUS small group twice a week (reading and math) and lunch bunch once a week-all with her own teacher.

For all the teachers who post here, is there a requirement for X number of actual teaching hours for ES/MS/HS?

I am curious also. I looked on the FCPS website but it is all buzzwords with no actual information.

ES-Is supposed to be 2 hours a day which may include 1 hour live, 1 hour office hours/small groups daily Monday-Thursday with Friday set as a team meeting day. It is up to schools how to schedule this. Many schools are doing different grades at different times in the event siblings are sharing devices.

5th grade- 1 hour Mon-Thursday.

Two 12 minute small group sessions twice a week.

A small assignment after each hour lesson that had like 3 questions.

It’s a joke how little they are doing.
