can you please post
(1) How much time per week going forward your child is scheduled "live" with any teacher (big groups, small groups, lunch bunch, pull outs, math groups, specials) (2) child's grade (3) name of school if you are comfortable sharing it, or just whether its a high FARMs school or not. Anecdotally, my friend in FCPS admin says the title 1 schools are doing the least synchronous learning and the $$$ area schools are doing the most, because the title 1 parents won't complain/don't log in/don't have enough devices/have other things going on. |
K - 1 hour and 30 min Monday through Thursday.
4th - 2 hours Monday through Thursday plus a ton of assignments. |
Not title 1 but not rich area. |
First grade. One hour learning per day, 2x "meet and greet" per week. 30% FARMS school (not Title 1, but minority white). |
Not true about title 1. One school passed out 80 laptops and their sessions are going great! |
3rd and 6th grade. 2-4 hours per day available between math and LA, office hours and specials. Mine are not in band or orchestra or it would be more. Mine are averaging logging on 1-2 hours and we may cut that back. Most of this is not interactive and are slideshow presentations they are watching. The students are muted and chat is off. It’s okay for something to do but they can watch the recordings at any time. They are not going to office hours and cutting back on specials already. It’s simply additional screen time without added benefit. No fault of the teachers. They are trying. Low FARMs school. |
And a lot of google classroom assignments which they complete. Those are more valuable with feedback than the scheduled classes. |
K - 1 hour with whole grade M-Th, 15-20 minutes with reading group or lunch bunch M-Thu.
2nd - 1 hour with class M-Th, 30 minutes with small groups M&W, optional 30 minute specials Tu. Reading, writing, and math Google Classrooms assignments that are directly related to class instruction from that day. 10% FARMS school. |
You guys are so lucky. Loudoun kids are getting 30 mins on Monday Wednesday and Friday morning so the teacher can walk through the hyperdocs. Nothing is being taught except, do this doc and then this one and then this one.
That's it. And the assignments are so so so lame, and take less than an hour to complete all of them for all subjects. No reading groups, no math, nothing. |
2nd grade base school:
1 hour whole class live instruction in AM 40 minutes of office hours in PM, 20 minutes of whole class live instruction in PM 5th grade AAP Center: 1 hour whole class live instruction in AM 1 hour office hours in PM Neither is high FARMS |
You have been getting instruction for weeks though. Some FCPS teachers just started providing google classroom work THIS week. |
1st- 30 min math/spanish
30 min reading M-T 15 min small group math and reading once a week a few optional outside activities provided |
What we have been getting is totally worthless though. |
is this an immersion school? |
Title 1 school - 1st grade
Mon Thurs - 30 minutes live each day. There is an Optional 1 hour office hours where the teacher is live, I'm not quite sure what to do with that and it's at lunch time for us, so I really haven't pursued having her logon. The live is Morning Meeting, story time and today they did an activity. There are also daily prerecorded lessons for Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. They are usually independent activities attached. My child tends to have a hard time paying attention to these. She has had attention issues prior but the teachers and pediatrician don't think it warranted testing but that was back in February. We use Blackboard Ultra for the Live and the prerecorded stuff is on Blackboard Learn and now Google classroom as a backup. Nothing is being turned in. No provision to do it. |
