As someone who lived in LA for 10-years - thanks for posting the rebuttal. IMO the things that make CA great do not trump the bad. Also to add onto #2 - they've been under-funding state schools for years - students can't even graduate in four years, see impacted classes. Never mind that it's difficult for in-state students to get in because the schools that are "renowned" want that out-of-state $. So not only do you have crappy public schools for K-12 but state funded colleges and universities have a lot of issues. Loved the weather, but no thanks. |

A lot of the ultrarich in places like ND have their own planes. That makes it a lot more tolerable because you can easily get away for stuff like medical appointments and cultural activities. They also have second homes in places like hawaii where they can get away when the weather is depressing. Montana and wyoming also have a lot of those rich folks.
Also, ND has a ton of fracking money so at least for a bit, people are sitting on easy street. It will be a boom/bust situation, though. |
I will give it to Gavin Newsom. He has done a good job so far, but we're not through the pandemic yet. New England especially Massachusetts has good public schools whereas California's are more hit and miss which contributes to its widespread inequality. CA does have a better state university system if you can get in. Massachusetts, Connecticut and other NE states consistently have some of the best k-12 schools though. |
