That's against school policy. They don't have the numbers to cut and STA has an after school/athletic participation requirement so there won't be cuts. |
| Not having the numbers may be a reason, but that's not correct about there being a no-cut policy in general. Ask the many kids who wanted to play b-ball but couldn't due to roster size limits. |
That's because basketball had too many players trying out. Lacrosse at STA doesn't have that issue. The total number of kids trying out would have to approach 70 for them to consider cuts for lacrosse when combining JV and Varsity. Basketball can only keep 15 maximum for Varsity, JV and freshman rosters. |
No one said there was a general no-cut policy. They said there are no cuts in lacrosse at STA. There are cuts in baseball, basketball, hockey, crew, golf, tennis, etc. you have to try out for the team. You may not be good enough to make it. |
| And unfortunately, with the three season sport requirement if you don’t make the team then you have to spend your afternoons doing voyager or ultimate frisbee or something similar. Kind of humiliating and a waste of time every day after school. |
| Soccer cuts at every level. That’s probably why they are the only STA team to consistently win. |
Actually, cross country is the only STA team to consistently win in the last 20 years but, unfortunately for them, no one really cares about cross country. Soccer has found success in the past few years but not really much prior to that. The only other STA team with any history of success has been baseball. Everything else is really pretty lack luster. Kind of makes it hard to justify their $30+million dollar field renovations 7 years ago, especially since they didn't touch the indoor athletic facilities (gym, pool, weight room, wresting room, etc) that are in desperate need of a complete overhaul renovation. |
Tell that to the kids who learned today they got cut. |
| There were cuts last year as well |
| In lax? Just varsity or JV as well? |
| When seven freshman make your varsity squad you are clearly desperate for decent players. Not going to be a good year for STA lax. |
| They made cuts but left JV with 18? While over 25 on varsity? Did they cut upperclassmen, over freshmen? |
| Yes, four juniors on JV and five sophomores. Bizarre. Maybe they aren’t very good upperclassmen, but still. It’s clear Varsity will be at the bottom of the IAC for the foreseeable future. |
| Looks like lots of previous varsity players aren’t returning. Wonder why? Problems with Heeter? |
From what I gathered from a few shell shocked and upset parents, the new HC’s priority is to win. If it means shedding a few players who gave their heart and soul to the school and sports program (and previously played varsity) so be it. STA can’t have it both ways. Include everyone only to be saddled with low performing players during practices, or focus on building and hurt the feelings of some kids. I don’t know the right answer. My kid is a soccer player and they cut all the time. Lots of hurt feelings and even tears. I guess that’s a good life lesson? The soccer team does win though. |
