Perhaps to OP, abuse = love. The pattern is her dad verbally abuses her but then is nice, jokes around with her, etc. and that cycle is deep-rooted and accepted as normal for OP’s whole life. So withholding attention, even negative attention, feels like a terrible loss.

In reality, her dad is a horrible human being and ideally OP will distance herself and get some therapy.
