Why is nobody criticizing Oprah for this?

Greta Van Susteren? Is she still a thing?

How's all that plastic surgery holding up these days, Greta?

Those flowers didn’t come from the local florist. She hired a high end florist who procures flowers from high end international vendors. That’s probably $10k worth of celebrity upcharged floral arrangements. A disgusting display of wealth.

Your local florist isn’t exactly selling flowers grown in her backyard.

No duh, pp. I didn’t say that. RIF.

The difference is the tulips I buy at giant are shipped in bulk...that’s why they’re only $7.99 a bunch.

Celebrities like Oprah have high end florists who will actually rush import specialty items and charge thousands for the service.

I wouldn’t have an issue if Oprah used a normal florist, but her florist to the stars most certainly cost a small fortune. And that is a disgusting display of wealth.

Get it?

Yawn. Get a life.

Oprah has a good gig. She is a billionaire, but still manages to convince people she is "regular folk". It is her gift.

Just like Trump, then.

So you’re better than Oprah bc you shop at Giant. You view your impact as smaller and not as important. Ok. Got it. Do you and keep that head held high.

Never said I was better than Oprah.

Have you always struggled with reading comprehension?

I think the fact that she bragged about such obviously expensive flowers in such an obvious way is a gross display of wealth. IMHO, that makes her a jerk. YMMV.

Some people can interpret and comprehend what they read. Others need exact words and thoughts laid out in front of them like a child. You think you are better than Oprah bc you purchased $7 flowers from Giant. That’s is very clear. If you didn’t you wouldn’t be posting and waving your judgy finger. You are not only bragging about those $7 flowers but also showing your ignorance about items from Giant and jealousy of her wealth. Carry on.

I think the point is that prior posters defending Oprah by equating her flowers—in terms of cost and carbon footprint—to the flowers normal people buy is absurd. It’s not the same thing. And boasting about it on social media makes it worse.

OP, do you eat bananas? You know they are tropical fruits that are shipped thousands of miles to reach our grocery stores. How about mangos? Or even better kiwis? Kiwis are usually shipped from far away places too (Italy, New Zealand, etc.). It seems hypocritical to me to criticize Oprah for doing something we all do every day: consuming products that are shipped from thousands of miles away.

Why is it not the same thing? Bc you are doing it and view your impact as smaller? It’s still an impact. Especially if you are buying flowers weekly.

With one huge exception: Oprah actually was regular folk at one time.

The flowers I bought from Giant yesterday I also had shipped in, though from Colombia not Holland. They didn't charter a plane for little old me though, and Oprah likely didn't either. The flower distributors in the US use shipping brokers in the source country that find the cheapest space on passenger and cargo planes that _already_ fly those routes.

In the flower industry, the exception is for big holidays like mother's day, when the demand is so great that there's just not enough existing cargo space. In those cases, they do charter cargo planes from the source country to major US distribution points.

Now I feel rich like Oprah. Not only did I have my flowers flown in, but the imported cheese I also bought from Giant was flown in. Aren't I living the fancy life!

Probably there are so many other things to be outraged about?!?!

OP, so you complain about Oprah shipping flowers from overseas, but you are typing on your smartphone or computer shipped from China? Really dude?

Not the op, but I have a question: can’t you see the difference between a computer or smartphone you’ll use daily for years vs flowers for a two-hour birthday party?
