Why is nobody criticizing Oprah for this?

Those flowers didn’t come from the local florist. She hired a high end florist who procures flowers from high end international vendors. That’s probably $10k worth of celebrity upcharged floral arrangements. A disgusting display of wealth.

Your local florist isn’t exactly selling flowers grown in her backyard.

No duh, pp. I didn’t say that. RIF.

The difference is the tulips I buy at giant are shipped in bulk...that’s why they’re only $7.99 a bunch.

Celebrities like Oprah have high end florists who will actually rush import specialty items and charge thousands for the service.

I wouldn’t have an issue if Oprah used a normal florist, but her florist to the stars most certainly cost a small fortune. And that is a disgusting display of wealth.

Get it?

So you’re better than Oprah bc you shop at Giant. You view your impact as smaller and not as important. Ok. Got it. Do you and keep that head held high.

Never said I was better than Oprah.

Have you always struggled with reading comprehension?

I think the fact that she bragged about such obviously expensive flowers in such an obvious way is a gross display of wealth. IMHO, that makes her a jerk. YMMV.

Some people can interpret and comprehend what they read. Others need exact words and thoughts laid out in front of them like a child. You think you are better than Oprah bc you purchased $7 flowers from Giant. That’s is very clear. If you didn’t you wouldn’t be posting and waving your judgy finger. You are not only bragging about those $7 flowers but also showing your ignorance about items from Giant and jealousy of her wealth. Carry on.

I think the point is that prior posters defending Oprah by equating her flowers—in terms of cost and carbon footprint—to the flowers normal people buy is absurd. It’s not the same thing. And boasting about it on social media makes it worse.

Why is it not the same thing? Bc you are doing it and view your impact as smaller? It’s still an impact. Especially if you are buying flowers weekly.

Why can’t you understand the multiple posts about her gross display of wealth? Note: it has nothing to do with her carbon footprint.

It's Oprah's money and if she wanted to treat her friend to some particularly beautiful tulips direct from Holland more power to her. I just hate the jealousy on this thread. It's beyond pathetic.

Go Oprah! And Happy Birthday Gayle!

You call it jealousy, but I think it’s just believing such excessive displays of wealth is distasteful.

I think it’s interesting that Oprah’s defenders are likely the same dcumers who kvetch about regular folk who post harmless FB pics from vacations or send holiday cards with “a family ad.”

Sweetie, you can think whatever you find interesting (you’re wrong as I don’t even have Facebook but I’m sure you do). It’s clearly jealousy, you want to be able to spend the money. You hate that she has the money. You call it flaunting when in reality it’s no different than the post you put on FB bragging about little Larla’s accomplishments or the family trip to Maui. If you were unbothered you wouldn’t be here pouting.

Wrong.

Classy people would never waste money and they certainly wouldn’t brag about it.

If you live in NW, Chevy Chase, Bethesda, Potomac, Alexandria, Arlington, drive a luxury car, send your child to private, own anything Apple then I guess you aren’t classy bc you are definitely wasting money.

Clearly Oprah did not think that it was a waste of money and neither did Gayle who was extremely touched that her best friend thought to do that for her. Good enough!

If Oprah sent you tulips from Holland I doubt that you would refuse to accept them so can feel free to get off your high horse at any time Ms. Classy.

Anonymous wrote:Such a ridiculous slant on flower purchases. As so many others have stated-vast majority of flowers-especially any you see from October to April are shipped in from Columbia, Holland, etc. Despite the trend of 'farmstand' flowers, just like nearly every 'fresh' fruit, vegetable, flower-they are not sourced from here. And the fact that Oprah wanted yellow flowers for her event in December you can bet like anyone else this time of year-yellow flowers would need to be special ordered as grocers and florists are only carrying a Christmas palate. Is there this same outrage for celebrity or your own wedding flower? I did my DDs bouquet in the fall and I'm sure the shade of perfect pink 'English roses' I ordered a month ahead were flown in. OP as you sit in your grim dark hole, probably in clothes purchased at Target, Kohls, or Costco/the $6 tshirt brought in from Vietnam or Malaysia wasn't sewn from cotton grown in Gaithersburg.

So ridiculous. I bet the OP has purchased imported flowers at some point for a loved one.

I took a look at Oprah's table setting.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7833865/Oprah-Winfrey-treats-BFF-Gayle-King-manicure-65th-birthday-setting-party.html

The amount of flown in flowers that Oprah used was kind
of moderate. This thread is ridiculous.

Oprah came from nothing and worked exceptionally hard to get to the top. If she wants to give her friend a few
flowers for her 65th birthday what is so wrong about that.

The cost to ship flowers is going to be very low by air due to the fact that flowers weigh almost nothing.

Costs to ship electronics from Asia will be considerable due to the weight of the product.

Agree. OP is stupid.

That's what you took away from the article? Get over yourself. You're a hypocrite.

Because they learned from the beef industry long ago she has POWER. Beyhive and Swifties nothing compared to Oprah's Army.

That makes no sense. Planes carry vital goods from other countries, not just luxury items!
