Anything Cabin Branch can do?

That's not really accurate. Better would be, "We paid a lot of money to live in Cabin Branch so our children wouldn't have to go to school with morepoor kids. This is unacceptable. Something must be done!"

I mean, look at the 2017-2018 numbers:

Clarksburg ES: 19% FARMs
Rocky Hill MS: 22% FARMs
Clarksburg HS: 27% FARMs

And there are a lot of MPDUs in Cabin Branch, and there will be more. And kids from two Neelsville MS feeder elementaries are already at Clarksburg HS.

So evidently that level of poverty is totally ok - if the prospect is reassignment from Rocky Hill MS/Clarksburg HS to Neelsville MS/Seneca Valley HS.

But imagine the screaming if, for example, people currently zoned for Pyle MS/Whitman HS were reassigned to a middle school/high school with poverty percentages like Rocky Hill MS/Clarksburg HS.

The sad/funny part is those percentages aren't bad at all when you consider the county average is closer to 35%.

People seem to be freaking out over nothing.

Next year have the same people provide stats from CB to Neelsville. I think though if you can provide these stats you might get the attention from the no boundaries change group to pressure the BOE to move your middle school back.

If you have FB join- Montgomery County MD Neighbors for Local Schools without Redistricting.

South Lake ES to Neelsville MS: 4.9 miles.
Cabin Branch ES site to Neelsville MS: 4.9 miles.

Hey, you know what would be a good idea? If MCPS did a county-wide analysis of boundaries, looking at capacity, distance, and demographics. That would really be useful.

Yes! People are acting as if this is the first instance of kids being bused past schools closer to their home...this has been going on FOR MANY YEARS! At least 20 years!! The kids who attend South Lake ES are much closer to Gaithersburg Middle, Forest Oak MS and MV Middle, but they are bused to Neelsville. There are kids in MV who are sent past 3 elementary schools in the Village to South Lake ES; that has been happening for at least 20 years, too. Just because it's been that way for so long doesn't mean that it should continue indefinitely. Eventually, changes in boundaries need to be made, and those boundaries were not guaranteed when you bought your home!

Yup. Somebody tell the people on that Facebook group that boundary changes are necessary in order to have local schools. Maybe they should change the name of the group to Montgomery County MD People Against Boundary Changes. Or, if they'd rather be for something: Montgomery County MD People For Keeping The Current Boundaries In Perpetuity.

Actually I know a couple people in Clarksburg who have sent their kids to private all along. Says the zoned public schools are overcrowded and not very good. One got their oldest into the poolesville magnet for high school though.
