Same! We've had several and have been so lucky that they've not been vocal dogs. All of them have been the biggest cuddlers and fantastic with every human they met.

We have a hound/beagle mix rescue now who has many of those same good qualities. However, he's a pro escape artist and will follow a scent trail for miles. We had to invest in a GPS collar for him because of his ability to wiggle out of every type of harness we've bought.

I didn’t think it was possible for a dog to be so cuddly until I got a beagle. She sleeps in the bed snuggled between us, head on a pillow. We spoon sometimes. It’s ridiculous. They’re huge babies.

I lost my beagle last spring and miss her terribly for all the reasons that have been mentioned before. I'd love to be able to find a reputable breeder to bring another one into our family.

Alaskan Malamutes.
Gorgeous, big, friendly, loyal and affectionate dogs. Intelligent but stubborn as mules, LOL.

I like those short haired medium sized mixes that look like smallish labradors, sort of like that photo of Carolina dog above but with floppy ears and they come in black or white. Just super cute and friendly and smart. Although german shepherds and beagles are also very cute. Also welsh terriers.

Our golden retriever whit Shepard mix was the sweetest girl. One ear up, the other down. Miss her.

I’m so sorry for your loss. There are so many beagles in shelters and from rescues. You could probably find a puppy. I got mine at 9 weeks from a local shelter. I hope you find a perfect beagle for your family.

Golden doodle.

Best of both breeds.

Vizlas. Sweetest dog I have ever had. They are goofy, fun, loving, and don't stink like most dogs. I've had mutts, a collie, and a GSD rescue for comparison.

Words that come to mind: strong, intelligent, handsome, noble bearing, athletic, protective and bonded to their family. This is my first and possibly last dog (we love this one, but spouse doesn't want another dog after given the time commitment to exercise, etc.).

When I'm older, if I don't have one myself, I may volunteer at a shepherd rescue.
German Shepard for me too, and for all the reasons that you have mentioned.

I don't have one now, but looking to adopt one from a Shepard rescue in a few years when I retire.

My German Shepherd is a velcro snuggle dog. I absolutely adore her.

1. As least allergenic as possible. That will depend on the dog and the individual.

2. Of a breed free of genetic issues.

3. Cute.

4. Sociable.

5. Doesn't shed much.

I got points 1 through 4: a Samoyed.
Problem: he sheds a ton (but is hypoallergenic, shedding and dander are not always associated).

23:16 again. Forgot to say: Samoyeds don't stink either, or drool much. They are very clean. They do have to be groomed regularly, with a comb and brush and also a dog-blower. When I used the dog-blower during his shedding period, it looks likes it's snowing. Outside use only

Love my golden doodle. She’s the sweetest, calmest, and most loyal dog. Everyone who meets her is instantly enamored.

I love golden doodles! The ones I've met have been goofy, adorable clowns .

Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland. The idea of a beagle breeder makes me laugh.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi for me. Perfectly sized for a house pet--not too big, not too small. Furry (ie., nice to pet), always look happy and alert, and are just darn cute. Easy to train, smart and generally biddable. If you train them early not to nip, they are great with kids. They are tough enough to withstand a little roughhousing and active play, but they can't topple a kid or inadvertently injure anyone. We are first-time dog owners, and have been pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to incorporate our corgi into our family. Low-maintenance, although they do shed incredibly.

I also love Golden Retrievers, but they really need a fairly large house/yard.

Rhodesian Ridgeback is my fave. I’ve thought of getting a golden doodle. Are they hard to find?
