What is your favorite dog breed? Why is that breed your favorite?

Had a female Golden Retriever during childhood & teen years. Never tied her up. Just let her roam the neighborhood.

On more than one occasion, we had families contact us from different part of town asking if she could spend the night. We let her even though we did know the families.

Many times the local police brought her back in the cruiser. They said that she was wondering around & they liked her companionship so they asked her for ride-alongs.

Neighbor across the street was not a dog person. Had two young female toddlers. While the girls were playing alone (about age 2 & 4) in their unfenced front yard with the fastidious father watching from a second story window while working, a Russian Wolfhound came charging at them to attack. Our 120 pound female Golden reacted swiftly knocking the Russian Wolfhound to the ground within inches of the girls. Our female Golden--Goldens are very protective of children-became ferocious in her chase of the Russian Wolfhound. Never saw the Russian Wolfhound again. Every Friday night for several years, our neighbor tossed our Golden a cooked charcoal grilled steak.

For a few years, our female Golden would lay down in the yard with the neighbor's children while they played. The toddlers could sit on her, play with her tail or ears, or pet her. Goldens are very protective of children.

Most neighborhoods don’t allow dogs to just town around.

your dog sounds awesome. You do not. Your dog could have been stolen or hit by a car.

+1

They are such sweeties, but they don’t make my list of favorites because of the shedding. It’s just too much.

No can turn on a dime and also can be very aggressive with out the right training.

French Brittney Spaniel - but they need tons of attention and lots of walking. Otherwise awesome.

American Spaniel, our dog was the most amazing guy. Patient, sweet, trained so easily, and loved to just lounge on our deck outside no matter how cold out.

He never ever barred his teeth but one time. He hated one of our UPS people. We had two gentlemen at the time. For some reason one of them my dog hated. The guy would drop the package on the front porch & from our den in the back of the house the dog would immediately go to the door and growl. This is a dog that never growled and never bared teeth with six kids running around. I will admit the guy was an odd duck when one had to sign for something he kind of grunted. And he would bring a ball and shoot hoops at my neighbors for a few min then get back in his truck. He brought his own ball. LOL.

Same! We've had several and have been so lucky that they've not been vocal dogs. All of them have been the biggest cuddlers and fantastic with every human they met.

We have a hound/beagle mix rescue now who has many of those same good qualities. However, he's a pro escape artist and will follow a scent trail for miles. We had to invest in a GPS collar for him because of his ability to wiggle out of every type of harness we've bought.

I didn’t think it was possible for a dog to be so cuddly until I got a beagle. She sleeps in the bed snuggled between us, head on a pillow. We spoon sometimes. It’s ridiculous. They’re huge babies.

I lost my beagle last spring and miss her terribly for all the reasons that have been mentioned before. I'd love to be able to find a reputable breeder to bring another one into our family.

Try Barb Ferneyhough at White Gloves Beagles. The. Best. Beagle. Breeder.

I love this story. Thank you for sharing. She sounds like she was a special girl.

English Bulldogs are BY FAR the goofiest (personality) dogs on the planet. Mine is, anyway. They are total love bugs, and they do love to be lazy, which is great for those times you don't want to move out of bed.

OK, OK... They are super greedy; plus they shed, smell, and drool terribly. Otherwise, they're darn near perfect.

How's their breathing? Seems cruel

Breathing issues, inbred, early death, smelly, shedding, drooly and they tend to be bad with other dogs. Baffled they aren't more beloved lol.
